    Interesting:

    https://www.anandtech.com/show/12371...y-2017-results

Look at the Intel consumer revenue - since Ryzen has come out, revenue has either become flat or gone done since the same time last year.

AT says the PC market is in decline, but it looks like the increased revenues for AMD as a result of Zen have corresponded with Intel starting to lose some revenue in the consumer space.

I'd noticed that myself. But of course Intel won't admit to losing market share to a competitor! And nor will certain websites...

Ahh I see. The problem with an ambiguous statement interpretations can differ. The other problem is that it's very difficult (if not impossible at times) to write a short and to the point statement without ambiguity at times.

    To provide more context:

I am fully aware that Ryzen 5 1600x will probably give me a 50% boost in highly threadable scenarios. However even an 1800x (even at sub £200) wouldn't be worth the platform upgrade cost to me.

Now to discuss the performance increase that I will usefully get. Not a lot. The 50% boost in MT performance will not be noticeable to me over 99% of the time. I would like more threads but that's more about saving time faffing with configuration around virtualisation.

Finally there's the cost of the platform upgrade. I have 32GB RAM. It's the max my system can take. I need 32GB RAM (in fact I could happily use a little more thoughn it's not currently necessary). 32GB DDR4 RAM is around £330. That price alone (ignoring the cost of CPU, Motherboard etc) is too much for me to justify a performance boost that I will only see rarely and will see me editing ovf files manually on rare occasions.

So now, tabloid style I'm going to bold the particualary relevant parts quoted:

I can't justify the cost for the performance increase that I will usefully get.

I can afford the upgrade. I will see a performance increase. That increase will be useful to me but not that much. Even a doubling wouldn't be that useful to me. So I can't justify it. Hence why I am unlikely to upgrade to a Ryzen 2 based system. The money is better spent elsewhere.

I never said you should buy anything. I was providing a performance reference for how Ryzen first gen compared to your i5, since you were talking about whether the performance benefit was worth the outlay. What you do with that information is entirely up to you.

Pictures for the retail packaging and stock cooler for the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G are leaked:

    Edit!!

Looks like the person who took the pictures won't do any benchmarks as his posts keep getting deleted on Baidu due to the NDA.

I assume it is - most of their customers are probably only just starting to roll it out AFAIK.

Good to see gross margin on the way up, but they're still stupidly far behind Intel, who are consistently over 60%. Got to wonder how that difference can be so large...

It also includes consoles, and either this quarter or next quarter it will pull in a bit from Intel's Kaby-G processors Interesting though that embedded Operating Income was down due to a one-off licensing payment in 2016 ... wonder what that was....

Maybe because they are selling a lot of older products still?? Plus at the lower end of the market,Intel still has smaller die sizes.

Plus they also do have debt repayments, etc.

Also adding to my previous comment:

    https://www.eteknix.com/qnap-ts-x77-...now-available/

Its taken around 8 months from the announcement for that NAS to become available. So I suspect mass sales for Ryzen are still ramping up.

Judging by your response I don't think you took the post in the tone that was intended. It wasn't meant to be patronising.

I was trying to get across the fact that when you only have text as a medium of communication, misunderstandings are the norm and at the same time make my position unambiguously clear.

    Re: AMD - Zen chitchat

OK, on a personal level I produced this comparison table on the article thread about the 3DMark11 performance leaks for Ryzen:

    Score type A10 4600m Ryzen 3 2200U
    Graphics 1160 1898
    Physics 2442 3530
    Combined 635 1905
    Overall 1155 2040

Which paints the 2200U in a very favourable light compared to my old A10 4600M (seriously AMD, I will buy the first laptop I see with this processor, 8GB of RAM and a 1080p panel). But to put some more context on those leaks, I've put together the same table for desktop A12 9800 (i.e. the fastest implementation ofg Bristol Ridge) against the $99 Ryzen 3 2200G:

    Score type A12 9800 Ryzen 3 2200G
    Graphics 3577 3950
    Physics 3732 6388
    Combined 2479 3635
    Overall (P score) 3445 4151

Perhaps not unsurprisingly, given the configurations (both have 8 CU running at ~1100MHz), the graphics score is pretty similar while the physics score is hugely faster on the Ryzen. It certainly makes me a lot more confident of the leaked results...

So GF 12NM is 15% denser due to the libraries used:
