Crysis Demo fps + your thoughts

just tried the crysis demo so thought i'd put down my thoughts about the game and see what everyone else thinks

firstly hugely disappointed running vista and getting 15-20 fps at 1280x1024@ high settings no AA

    second
although the game looks very good i felt very bored playing it enemies are bunched together in small groups were you kill a few then walk through the bush to the next few,it felt more like an expansion pack for far cry than a new standalone game.

overall all the hype this game has maybe i expected too much from it i may cancel my preorder and get call of duty 4 instead

on a plus note shooting the trunks of the palm trees and then breaking and falling down is fun but when you shoot at the leaves you still get the classic bullet holes and no actual destruction

what did everyone else think of it

Re: Crysis Demo fps + your thoughts

Was pretty shocked how poorly it ran. First played through on medium settings (what it thought my PC needed), no AA @ 1680x1050, ran very smoothly. The gameplay is quite interesting at first but soon gets repetitive. The cloak thing wans't as powerful as I would have liked - it's best for hiding behind a rock, cloaking, taking aim and getting headshots (was playing on delta difficulty so die quite easily ).

The rest of the powers weren't used that much either, I found putting a silencer on a rifle and going prone was enough to dispatch practically everyone. Rushing in just meant I got shot to pieces. I grabbed someone, and other than throwing them I didn't know what to do. I took them in the water to see if there was a drowning animation but they just fell out of my hand and left a pool of blood in the water.

Anyway, got through it, I just stole a boat and went over to the objective and finished it quickly, second play through tried on VH settings with 2x aa. 1 FPS if that. Turned off AA, went up to 2-3FPS. Dropped the settings to high, still unplayable (mouse lag), so had to have them on medium again.

Was a bit of a shame, but apparently the game does benefit from quad core. I installed the latest beta nvidia drivers last night but still was quite shocked at the performance vs. quality. Not sure whether it's because it's the demo, or the 8800gts just doesn't pack as big a punch?

idk framerates seem okay to me, not the best like ut3 but it's alright i suppose. it feels the same as the mp demo so i've got nothing to moan about.

Re: Crysis Demo fps + your thoughts

I wasn't too disappointed with how it runs, it was never going to go too fast on a gts. Anyone remember trying to get Far Cry to run when it first came out?

Gameplay does seem to lack something... though I'm not sure exactly what. The guns certainly don't seem to feel all that chunky.

Re: Crysis Demo fps + your thoughts

When i chose optimal settings it put it all on very high, i decided maybe not and shoved it on High, its playable not sure on fps yet as fraps didnt work :|

But i watched my task manager and temps whilst playing, its putting nothing on the CPU, one core is really only used and thats never more than 3/4 so over all im using about 20% processing power, and my GTX got no higher than 57*C same as UT3...

Re: Crysis Demo fps + your thoughts

I found it a bit far cry, but Its fairly obvious that they have saved a lot of the best game mechanics/enemies for later - i think the zeroG levels and the ice/aliens are going to be cool. Still going to get it - its going to be an experience.

But happy-ish on medium, but need to tinker. Maybe the demo isnt fully optimised, as I'm sure that they said the game was properly multi-threaded. And no - the 8800 doesnt seem enough really. Drat - and dounle drat - as I just bought one

The gmaeplay does seem pretty similar to Farcry, but that's not really a bad thing imo.

It's a shame that on my machione the graphics look worse than Farcry though Had to run it at 1152x720 and all low settings. I'll probably be buying it, but not until I upgrade later this year/early next year.

Over 10 minutes of game play, involving a gun fight, some explosions, water and me dying Get out of the hummer before it blows up

This is what FRAPS gave me.
    Min Max Average
    20 46 31.003

Thats with all on high and objects, physics and particle on very high. @ 1680x1050

Not too sure but in the Nvidia control panel i have AA and AF set to x4, does that make a differance or does it have to be changed ingame?
