Never played these games, are they on a sililar line to C&C. i.e. build a base, and advance tech whilst attacking?
    Whats different about it?

    Re: Empire: total War

Total War series is like Star Wars Empire At War, manage your own country and build armies on the campaing map, also have diplomatic relations with other factions, as well as spying, religion, and assassination. you can virtually place your land army anywhere where there is land (almost anywhere) and fleets where there is water, when an enemy attack you with 1500 units versus your 2000 units, the game takes you in a battle map, in battle, if you have 2000 unit, you WILL have 2000 units, wich, of course is the same thing for the AI, if he has 1500 units, he will have 1500 units. it doesnt have that much graphics like Company of Heroes or COD 4 but its gameplay remain unmatched.

you can have a good idea of the total war series on youtube, or on the website for total war series.

or you could visit The Creative Assembly website, wich is in my link.

    thanks

    what I think:

It's more about moving your troops around than building a base. For example, you will start a battle with a set number of troops and stuff, and you try and win like that. It's not about building a base or anything.

    Re: Empire: total War

Ahh the total war series of games are fantastic!

One thing that disappointed me was the Seige Weaponry in Rome Total war; if the opposing faction had fortified their castle, no matter how good your seige weapon is, it took ages to bust down the walls - repetitive/boring and the opposing army never left their castle.

Will the sea faring battles be similar to land based battles or will it be like Rome Total War where it was literally click on who you wanted to duke it out with and win/lose?

Will Empire Total War be similar to Rome where lands had value in that it either produced more money or produced better troops or weapons?

Will there be any penalties applied if a piece of land belonging to you is land locked (surrounded) by enemy territory, other than of course, not being able to move anywhere?

What will the system requirements be? I remember when I first bought Rome:TW it killed my machine at the time (though I hope I won't have that problem this time). How does it scale on varying hardware?

How realistic is a February release date?

I've not really been following development of this, but I am very interested in having a go when it arrives.

    Seabattles:

individual warships, no groups, instead of an arrow its a compass when u select the unit, boarding will take you into real strategies into wich the great empires used, not only do you have a sea battle now, you have a ship-ship battle to watch over! and sea battles are not like rome total war duke out-type, a battleship will be really vulnerable to ramming ships and so on, except that a ramming ship cannot win any boarding actions.

there will be penalties if a province gets locked, no trading, no contact (therefore you cant control units except when defending).

Seems silly to say can how can you get a province locked while you still have troops there to defend? And just how do the provinces get locked in the first place?

Boarding partys on ships, that looks like a great feature, but do you control the boarding party or just watch once the orders been given?

I've not really been following development of this, but I am very interested in having a go when it arrives.
the system requirements arent defined just yet (officially) but i will recommend you the following:

    CPU speed: 3.0Ghz

OS: XP or Vista (SP1 STRONGLY recommended)

graphics card: Nvidia 8800 GT or equivalent (sry fer the lack of ATI info, im not an ATI guy)

Sound Card: any, doesnt really matter, as long as you have one.

Motherboard: i strongly recommend a mother board with at least 2 PCI express slots and 3 PCI slots

RAM: DDR2 1064 Mhz (i strongly recommend, this ram is damn stable and works nice with games)

Network: high speed, simple enough dont even try to play with dial up... i personaly have T1 connection.

Other: I STRONGLY recommend a physics card, this game is demanding on physics and therefore you computer will run 2x better than w/o physics card when running this game.

High def support on sound/video: meh, its not mandatory but the experience is better, i dont have high def and the game still is awesome.

on top of that, for the ultimate nicest experience with the game, that a shower, sit in the most comfortable chair you can afford and play the game when the sun sets

Seems silly to say can how can you get a province locked while you still have troops there to defend? And just how do the provinces get locked in the first place?

Boarding partys on ships, that looks like a great feature, but do you control the boarding party or just watch once the orders been given?
how a province gets "locked": your province is in the middle of enemy territory without any allied contact therefore no activity will happen in that province and poeple will die off faster since there is no food exported there, its just like if your whole province were sieged.

yes, you do control boarding parties on ship-to-ship, the unit cards (boarding party) you control are smaller tho.

    Re: Empire: total War

    *UPDATE*
    There are some web sites and some videos (on Youtube) that are saying that Empire: Total War will be released other than February; this is FAKE do NOT believe as it is not true;

There are some Videos that says the 6th or 9th or even the 13th/15th of February that the game will be released; Sega, The Creative Assembly, and its partners WANTS to release the game by 9th of February, but it isnt confirmed as they still need to patch up some errors and still need to finish, publish, and present the game to the president of Creative Assembly and other "important" poeple like CA's partners and high staff from Sega.

Engine, AI, graphics, Effects, gameplay are COMPLETELY changed compared to Medieval II: TW

    Re: Empire: total War

Thought this game looked qiute good so when i saw Rome Total war going cheap bought it to try. As addictive as the game is finding it almost impossible to have the citys far from rom make any money and are infact loosing me an awful lot.
Any tips that'll help me financially in the game would be nice.

The citys tend to make some money when you first take over with smaller populations but soon start loosing money.

The senate keep giving missions for things like blockade ** port within 5 turns while i'm barely making a profit i can't really biuld a fleet without money
