I thought it'd been pushed back to March mate? Shame like.
the system requirements arent defined just yet (officially) but i will recommend you the following:
CPU speed: 3.0Ghz
OS: XP or Vista (SP1 STRONGLY recommended)
graphics card: Nvidia 8800 GT or equivalent (sry fer the lack of ATI info, im not an ATI guy)
Sound Card: any, doesnt really matter, as long as you have one.
Motherboard: i strongly recommend a mother board with at least 2 PCI express slots and 3 PCI slots
RAM: DDR2 1064 Mhz (i strongly recommend, this ram is damn stable and works nice with games)
Network: high speed, simple enough dont even try to play with dial up... i personaly have T1 connection.
Other: I STRONGLY recommend a physics card, this game is demanding on physics and therefore you computer will run 2x better than w/o physics card when running this game.
High def support on sound/video: meh, its not mandatory but the experience is better, i dont have high def and the game still is awesome.
on top of that, for the ultimate nicest experience with the game, that a shower, sit in the most comfortable chair you can afford and play the game when the sun sets
for you to be a beta tester isnt up to me to define it, Dreaming.
and for you andy, if i were you i would modify scripts to have alot of money... because Rome: Total War was made quite quickly and me and all my friend who has the game edited the scripts to have alot of money.
the Lead Engine programmer is saying that there are so many glitch reports that relates to the engine that it is possible the the release date will be in march-april.
Funny thing is i was trying to get it to work for me in the prologue campain before i moved to a proper campaign but it was never going to work.
I gave the next campaign a go anyway and i'm making a fortune. Just have to make sure that all your towns prioritys are buildings with financial and trade gain and worry about military later.
Once you have money bribing armys or employing mercenary's will always get you out of trouble.
Yea I was just kidding, no worries
Unfortunately Valve have been a bit sneaky, in order to give 10-75% off everything they've pulled things like the preorder of Empire Total war.

Is that for Pentium 4 or something more modern like core 2 duo?CPU speed: 3.0Ghz
Why 3 pci slots?Motherboard: i strongly recommend a mother board with at least 2 PCI express slots and 3 PCI slots
1064Mhz? Are you sure you didn't meant 1066?RAM: DDR2 1064 Mhz
Does every man in a unit shoot all at once(within a short period e.g. 1-2 seconds) e.g. in the NTW2 mod for RTW all ranged units could shoot through each other due to the engine limitation or is it using rank rotation like in MTW1 and MTW2 where only the first rank shoots and then moves to the last rank and reloads? Recent pictures suggests that units able to shoot through each other.

Wouldn't have thought he meant for a core 2 duo unless he's going for 'highly recomended specs'
The PCI slots, i thought that was a bit strange but looking at some of the other stuff he's said realised he's not all that clued up with PC specs so just left it (no offence intended)
RAM they never recomend the speed normally and DDR2 amount will make a bigger difference than speed. Wouldn't have thought they would have more than 2 gig for recommended.
As for the units shooting through each other the land battles trailer shows that happening. the first 3 or 4 rows should be able to. One shot appears to show the ranks that arn't firing kneeling?
I would cetainly hope they've made the combat as real as is possible, make sure i get the most satifaction out of killing the French

No, not while kneeling. More like the whole unit firing all at once.

Pic still doesn't give much away, you only see the front few lines. I would hope it's only the front few lines that can fire otherwise it's just gonna make most of the real tactics pointless.
The kneeling units seen before mabee different units, might be riflemen and not muskets?
It's totally wrong if the first 3 ranks are able to fire through each other. It's another thing when the first rank knees so the second rank can fire.
Firing through the shoulders with muskets?
Staggered line! Firing through the gap between the 2 men in front. Have you never watched Sharpe?
And before you laugh and say that's just TV they did alot of research to make sure they got it right, which is why the devs for empire total war watch alot of Sharpe. See the dev diary

There's an example of how to fire muskets, there's only 8 of them but in 2 ranks firing through the guys infront. You should never see the first rank on a musket line kneeling as they couldn't reach the end of the barrel to reload.
1) i did meant dual cores at 3.0 Ghz, so far the game has been tested on dual cores and up as far as I know...
2) think about Rome: TW when skirmishers are firing their pilum, its pretty much the same timing in Empire: total war, only thing is that you can syncronise units in a group and desync them:
Syncronised: units in Empire: tw, their firing timing and style are pretty much the same as in Rome: TW skirmishers
Desyncronised: this takes more juice from your computer; each units fire and reload on their own speed.
NEW PATCH UPDATE:
Engine Update: friendly fire made more realistic. just like in real life.
models: now a 120 different faces of soldiers.
units: added fire ships.

3) why 3 PCI slots: -1 slot for a physics card (your CPU will get a huge payload off its back if you get one as this game has unmatched physics in a RTS game)
-1 slot for a soundcard (thats if you like having high def, if not, i recommend 2 PCI slots)
-the last slot for adding a litle extra that could be coming up...
Rome Total war the Skirmishers all can use their weapons no matter how many rows back they are as they are throwing upwards to reach the enemy.
You can't have muskets more than 3 rows back firing as it's on a flat trajectory and it's unrealistic.
The screenshots i've seen don't really make it clear, the screens where the unit is in a thick formation with everyone firing have been firing up hill so it's not clear if they'll do that on flat ground.
So you've played it, what's the score?
Dual core 3.0Ghz? That must be to play it on very good specs though as that's ridiculously high for minimum requirements?

can someone explain to me why volleys are better than everyone just firing at his own pace anyway? (historically, i mean) only thing i can think of is it might be a bit more scary for the enemy cos its louder.
