The depth and trading/manufacturing system of Eve, yes.. but now put AI in place of all those pesky other players, and don't charge to continue playing!
Imagine system shock 2 with direct X 10 or even DX11 graphics and effects and ultra high resolutions.
Add to that 5.1 surround sound with higher quality audio and you got a match made in heaven.

Over there is a privateer remake little slugworths.
Ultima in the World, some remakes being tried for that one too.
I find virtual PC windows 95 in it works very well for old dos based games, the problem retro gaming I find is I the game is not as good as my memories as graphics has improved and my mind as up rated it to current levels so its sad to see how basic it was.
It would be a lot of work but it would be nice to see a modern remake of the orginal System Shock as well.

Perhaps not that old, but Skies of Arcadia was a fab RPG on the Dreamcast. Would love to see more of that.

Win95 or Win98 in virtual PC works well for me.

Speedball did get remade I think it was downloadable game for XBL but I dont think it was supposed to be very good

Read up, I linked that Starbreeze through EA Classics is doing a Syndicate
Speedball was remade for the PC and it was a dog and a half of a game.
