Carmaggeddon (must include original Fear Factory soundtrack)

Railroad Tycoon in 2D - As has been mentioned replaying it on anything faster the 100MHz means a TGV journey is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it event!

    Tie Fighter!

Gunship 2000 - The first flightsim I really got hooked on completing the missions.

Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries - The mech building and combat never felt quite right after this.

Mechcommander 2 - more scenarios, more mechs, more war!

This is why I hate so many remakes, esp when new developers get hold of a title's rights, they never seem to get what made the game good in the first place.
If you don't understand the appeal of the original DON'T REMAKE IT
This is so true in the eyes of Sierra when they took Tribes 1 and 2 off Dynamix, shut them down and then made Tribes: Vengaence, what a crock of crap they turned that into and basically destroyed a whole community of gamers who then ran their own servers and we all stuck to T1 and T2 xD

Man I miss tribes. No other FPS has come close to it since. Sector 8 is showing some promise though for a Tribes a like

    Vampire: Bloodlines would be great.

    Not even that exact game.

The whole Bloodlines universe has so much lore. The different vampire classes like the Malkavians or Tremere.

Put that in a huge open ended city Bethesda style and that would be my heaven.

Such good taste you all have

Have to agree with allot that has been posted. +1 to Syndicate/Captain Blood/Dungeon master/Dungeon keeper/speedball.

To whoever it was that mentioned head over heels - not a complete remake, but a nice take on it available to download free here http://retrospec.sgn.net/game-links.php?link=hoh - downloaded it on one of our Linux machines at work - gets plenty of playtime

Re: Old games that would be awesome remade

A remake of any classic game would be epic, but there si one i logn for more than anything. Zelda Ocarina of Time. I mean wow what a game and imagine what ti could be like now - trolling through Hyrule on Epona swinging you Master Sword at Po's. A fantastically rendered Zora's domain with some bad ass reflections, and last but not least that uber soundtrack in surround, god damn i miss that opening tune. Theres got to be an Elder Scrolls Zelda mod round here somewhere...
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Anyone that knows Frogger but hasn't see Horace Goes Skiing should look at this:

The Frogger part really is EVIL.

    More awesome Amiga-ness:

Turrican - awesome game on the amiga even if it is mostly a more action packed version of Metroid. Used to love that game (and number 2, number 3 not so much).

Gods - spent ages playing through this. It was one of the first good implementations of a game that gets harder - and rewards you well -for playing well. Do it faster and better and get into the secret areas don't and you wouldn't even know they are there.

Mate, its open source now so you can just go download it for nothing. There are even some pretty cool mods like the babylon 5 one.

Another game that came to mind.... Desert strike?

I reckon they could do something really good with that concept.

Re: Old games that would be awesome remade

I always prefured FreeSpace1 to FreeSpace2, fs2 was still good just not as good to me.
Yes the graphics were ramped up, captial ships were bigger and harder.
The issue was the fighters, FS1 had a nice progression of ships, great dogfighting and more limited missle payloads.
In FS2 the fighters all got so much faster and more maneuverable, forceing you to rely far more on thoes large missile payloads which ment overall dog fighting suffored.

One of the real shining points of of both FS1 and FS2 that is often overlooked, was FRED the mission editor, making your own missions was great.

Here's another one, IWar2, probably the best space flight and combat mechanic of any space game I've ever played
It had an ok story line, a large open sandbox universe, but it was almost totally empty, well lots of systems, planets, jump points and such but no reason to go to any of them, there were only a couple of good jump points to pirate transports (you're only way to make money & get stuff) so you'd just hang around them and never visit the rest of the system.

I have to agree., Privateer was "simplified" but the fun factor was high. Haven't used a Joystick/Flightstick for gaming in many years but I'd get another if they made a (good) Privateer 2. Hell, bring back Wing Commander!

Re: Old games that would be awesome remade

For me, would be a couple of the old co-op shooters, namely Midnight Resistance and Contra. Having seen what a 2D game can look like with all the associated bells and whistles (Just have a look at Shadow Complex on the 360) I think that these could be great. Dual analogue would also be perfect for Midnight, which let you move in one direction and fire in another. They might not be ground breaking, but they were adrenaline pumping and awesome with 2 players!!!
