I-War and I-WAR2 - if you haven't played them then you've missed out. Superb games, I WAR 2 is still pretty special even tho its been out a few years.

    Storyline is superb.

I loved X-wing and Tie fighter (Why has Lucas Arts got so little right since then?), but the original Elite has got to be the all time best.

I'm another fan of Freelancer, although I really liked X2 it just took too long to get going. unless you cheated at the start of the game.

If you could combine Freelancers control system (plus the galaxy looked better) with the depth of X2 you would be onto an absolute corker.

I'd like to look at EVE but I've already got BF2 to suck up all my online time.

Eve has absorbed my life for nearly two years. Its the most player-driven online game out there and utterly involving. Can't ask for more than that. Stunning.

X-wing alliance rocked, but I oddly loved Star Wars Star Fighter, even though it wasn't popular.

x-wing and tie fighter for the pc - lucasarts has never come close to repeating these classic games since.

also the original elite for the acorn - a truely great game way ahead of its time.

showing my age a bit by recommending these golden oldies !

I believe freespace 2 can be downloaded at underdogs. Sorry for the pimping but I worked on this and it's a truly excellent game: You don't need anything, just download The Babylon Project to play it.

    http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/ho...on/index.shtml

A total conversion for freespace 2 (which since freespace 2 source became public) has seen the engine be radically overhauled. The Babylon Project no longer requires Freespace 2 to play. Offering multiplayer and single player experience (see the multiplayer topic in the forum for details of how to get the multiplayer game working).

It offers traditional, big explosion space battles - an arcade style experience.

It's worth a look if you like game such as x-wing vs tie fighter.

400Mb approx, bit torrent files available, free!

Go grab it and let me know your thoughts.

Eve. to be honest, Freespace 2 feels like a 1990s console game compared to the awesomeness that is eve. The multiplayer (which i tried) is just baad. imho. even with the persistent servers.

Had almost 14,000 simultaneous players in eve recently. And there are no shards or anythign like that, everyone is with everyone else, in the same game, all the time, realtime. So that's quite something.

Oh and nice to meet you mr. thread Eve 4tw!!!

edit; to the bloke that said BF2 takes too long. If you have autopilot flying you about in Eve as you trade or pick stuff up, its the perfect time to fire up BF2 for a quick frag. I play both!!! lol

Re: Name your favourite Space Sim

Hi everyone! Happy New Year to you all. Let's hope that better times are around the corner. I am a newcomer here. At 51, I have been a fan of space sims for many years. Video and computer games are so much fun!! I love Macs but I own several PC's for gaming purposes. I grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars. I was also an X-Files nut!! I adore dogs, especially my 6 (yes, SIX) chihuahuas. They are all pets; I do not breed. Rescue has been an important part of my life.

Space sims are my favorite!! I am disgusted with the current trends in video games... With each passing season there seem to be less and less interesting games. It seems that the only real interesting space themed games are coming from Russia.

Like many of you, I also loved Freelancer. If you loved FREELANCER, check out Taikodom. I tried to post the link but am not allowed to. It may be worth your while to check it out.

Many of the older space sims can now be obtained for free. There are several sites where an updated version of Privateer can be had for free. Many, if not all, of the Wing Commander series is available free as abandonware.

Shawn Bower's Star Wraith series is well worth checking out! His earlier games are now freeware. All of his games are all Vista compatible. Again, I cannot post the links but if you google Star Wraith I, II,and III you'll locate them. His newest games are also available under the Star Wraith logo. Have fun everybody!
