Well I dunno about that, seems to run smooth as a greased polecat on my PS3...
And there's loads of physics going on all the time as well as rendering of a large, detailed open area, plus the AI for the 15 other racers... and the various visual effects too.
But hey, what would I know?
I've only sat there and compared the two (admittedly not side by side but one after the other) in actual gameplay...
And don't forget, the vast majority of my time I've spent dissing the PS3, so this isn't fanboyism of any shape or form.
i was referencing http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156337
and true, i've not seen motorstorm running, i've experienced a ps3 running in the comfort of my own home, and been totally unimpressed by what i saw.
developers have some serious work to do before the ps3's game library outweighs the high price and hardware annoyances of the box itself, in my mind. i've only seen one ps3 exclusive i remotely care about
I didn't see slowdown on 720p, but then my mate didn't try 1080p so..
Still stand by what I said in that visually it just doesn't impress anyway near what Gears does (or gameplay wise, but that's another thing and a totally different genre)
the ps3 supports resolutions on a per-game basis, because it has no scaler hardware
most games (including motorstorm) are 720p or 480p only, which is a major problem for early-adopter americans whose sets only do 1080i or 480p (as the ps3 will scale down to the highest resolution both tv and console support)
HDTV has to be a must!
Now, now Hexxy, you know the score, you are aware that Gears is a 2nd generation 360 game, and also *the* standout game for visuals on the 360. You wouldnt expect there to be anything from Sonys first generation efforts that looks as good.
The issue is not does anything look as good as Gears, but simply are the PS3 games that are around looking good. From what I've seen, heard, and read (IGN videos, reviews, the almighty Nick and his opinions) things like MotorStorm and Fall of Man are looking mighty fine.
Perhaps comparing these games to PGR3, or Perfect Dark Zero would be a better comparison.
Nicks played all of these titles I assume. What looks more flash, PGR3 (Or Burnout Revenge if you prefer) or Motorstorm?
PD0 or Fall of Man?
Well Tarinder loves Fall Of Man which I think sucks a bit for the 'slow' bullets...
On the other hand, I'm loving Call Of Duty 3, which far and away beats the Wii version...
For those of you worrying (why, I don't know) over Motorstorm, it's simply a fun, simplistic racing game. Imagine a good looking Burnout with vastly better visuals and physics realism.
Taking GoW on the Xbox 360, I could be really nasty and ask the following question...
Cos guys, you're comparing a game launched over 14 months after the console game out with games that are not even out on a yet to be released (in the UK) platform. All you Xbox 360 owners, waving GoW like a little flag of superiority, do any of you want to tell me how long the Xbox 360 was out before this turned up?
So, I suggest we all hang onto GoW and then we'll pick a third or first person shooter for the PS3 sometime around May 2008 and THEN do a comparison.
Oh, and let's not forget, Epic are shipping UE3 dev kits to PS3 developers as well as Xbox 360 guys... mebbe we'll see a GoW sequel go cross-platform?
