Peter molyneux started Lionhead and created Black & White, i game you either love or hate (I loved it then hated it when my Character lost all it's memory, and i'd been playing solidly 8 hours a day for 7 days!)

And mike diskett started muckyfoot and made urban chaos and startopia not bad games but ultimately flawed.

Well lets see what they both do next...

kirb, i cant believe i left Thief 1 & 2 off they are classics, at least Thief deadly shadows lives up to the legacy

mucky foot may not be top, but syndicate wars is easily one of diskett's finest

1.) Elite for the BBC - so far ahead of its time, this game was simply amazing. Was amazingly novel to see something that wasn't a cute platform game.
Looks a bit crappy now when someone points out that all the ships and planets are see through but never mind

2.) Elite2:Frontier for the PC - Brilliant for the amount of freedom you had in the game to do what you wanted. A stupid amount of things to explore & do. Destroyed my chances of getting decent GCSE's

3.) Civilization2 - If the previous game destroyed GCSEs then this one destroyed A Levels. In the words of comic book guy - "Best TBS Ever"

4.) Master of Orion 2 - Civilisation in space, awesome amount of control over your species & your military. Just a pity it never worked on the NET properly.

5.) Starcraft - Probably still remains the best Real time strategy game ever, years after 3D games have supposedly overtaken it. Brilliant single player campaigns as with all Blizzard games and awesome online with Battle.net

    1. Final Fantasy 7.
The Game is genius, never before have I played something with a story with so many twists and turns that got me waiting with baited breath to know what is round the next corner, the combat system works perfectly for those new to role playing games and advance user alike, giving the novice the time to understand the way things work without having to loose anything from the game and the advance user the ability to put their knowlage to use at an early stage with out the problems of having to side track them with unneccasary tutorials. With the CGI cut scenes adding a whole new depth to the story, watching it unfold and rewarding you for your efforts. Even all the mini games where so well done with great game play that they became addictive in there own right.

    2. Gran Tourismo.
For finding the perfect balance between gameplay and simulation, not something that can easily be achieved without one over complicating or over simplifying the other, and for also providing a depth to a game in terms of the number of cars that are on offer and the possible modifications to them.

    3. Quake II.
For most people the FPS revolution started with Doom or Quake I or even later with Half-Life, for me it was Quake II. It was simply the best in terms of gameplay for both online and offline play, it came out when 3D PC gaming technology was finaly becoming avaiable and more popular to the masses make the whole online experence even more great.

    4. Tekken.
It's the king, it turned the beat em up into a game of skill with the amount of moves, combinations and counter attacks with great graphics. The added bonus was that the moves are all based or taken from real fighting styles.
It set a very high benchmark for it's day and is still holding it's ground in it's soon to be 5th (6th if you include tag) version, future of this genre can only improve.

    5. Metal Gear Solid.
Hideo Kojima is a genius, to take a computer game and turn it into a playable movie takes a lot of skill and he did this with MGS. This set the benchmark for stealth with great story and even better graphics and the attention to detail in each of his games steps up the mark for the others to catch up with. It's a hollywood blockbuster with an over the top script and excelent characters just like 'Escape from New York'.

Further down the list are Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Sonic, Tomb Raider, Age of Empires, C&C, Doom II.

    1. Championship Manager: Has been robbing me of many precious hours since the first version! It is in fact mininmised as i type. Can't wait for Football Manager.
    2. Sensible soccer and all its versions: SWOS was great and you could be Hearts of Oak!
    3. Baldurs Gate: the original and best. However Neverwinter Nights is fantastic.
    4. Super Monkey Ball 2: one was good but two rocks!
    5. Pro Evolution Soccer: any and all of them. FIFA pales in comparison.
    6. Bushido Blade: original fighting game requiring brains and skill. Great on original PS.
    7. Chuckie Egg: wow! Took up ages of my life.
    8. 3D maze: on the zx 81. First computer memory. Hid behind sofa scared of dinosaur coming to eat us!
    Not around too often!

Good old Chuckie Egg, along with Snapper used to be the biggest source of competition in the house.

My brother used to get home and play on it till he beat the previous days high score. Then I'd get home from school and play until I'd beaten his score. Finally my dad would get home and spend the rest of the night till the early ours playing until he beat that score.

He'd then leave his new top score on a bit of paper for my brother to have a crack at the following day. And so on.....

On Snapper we got to the third acorn and about 5 or six times round on Chuckie Egg, never have I seen such a high speed giant chicken

I cant believe that only one person mentioned Deus Ex.

    1/Deus Ex
Simply the best most atmospheric game ever made, used to sweat playing this.
    2/Manic Miner
    This one needs no introduction.
    3/Super Sprint on Atari ST
This was just great arcadey fun.
    4/Elite on the Beeb
    Err because it was elite...duh!
5/Jetset Radio Future on the Xbox.
Was always a platform fan and was pleasantly surprised to discover this was a deep platformer disguised as a skating game. Soundtrack is brilliant, full of Japanese Whackiness.
    The Cow by Ogden Nash
    The cow is of the bovine ilk;
One end is moo, the other, milk.
