Where to drive?

Any suggestions for good places to spend the day driving? Just general road driving?

Off with a friend on the weekend, he is paying for petrol so suggest anywhere really! As long as its not too far.. I live in Scarborough so nowhere further than 150 miles out I'd say.

To echo earlier thoughts, the Lakes or Wales.

The Lakes especially is awesome. As long as it's dry. It's a bit of a snag is when the roads get a wee bit flooded and you have a 2 mile long empty road stretching ahead of you... that you have to go along at precisely 5mph dodging puddles

And you can get caught out pretty badly in some spots if it's really wet, despite being a decent driver. Which I'm certainly not, but the missus is. She had a few nervy moments on the road from Windermere to Ullswater. Especially when the local sheep had a game of chicken on a blind bend. I could have sworn they were baa-ing gleefully as we went careering up the road...

Don't the locals tend to mind there being a big gap in the bridge? Or was that the result of Mission Impossible III?
