Re: Natwest Internet Banking Card Reader :-)

but I want to setup new Payees when ever I want. I don't to it frequently but I don't want to be limited to when I can do it.

this is a stupid idea and total overkill.

Security problems are user based, phising email and the like. If the users are dumb enough to be frauded and input their passwords, this card won't stop that.
    It is Inevitable.....

Re: Natwest Internet Banking Card Reader :-)

I had one for my Swiss account a long time ago, got one for my Belgian bank when I moved here in January and got my Nat West one about 3 weeks back. PITA tbh, I used to be able to bank from any PC, now I have to have these three things with me.

I have a better thing at my Luxembourg bank. They give you a code card with 16 alphanumeric characters on it, and you have to pick out a pattern based on the codes to log in, plus password and PIN. At least I can carry the card in my wallet and it's useless to anyone but me.

My Mauritius bank doesn't do internet banking. I have to do it all by fax.

Got my barclays one well over a month and a half ago.

Its successfully put me off using online banking, such a PITA. I'd much rather it be the way it was.

Re: Natwest Internet Banking Card Reader :-)

Hmm, I want one now, but I have a query....

I use Natwest for my everyday banking but also egg for cashback credit card, now if i used both types of cards for all sorts of payments and transfers would I need 2 machines or would at a later date, banks release a new firmware to "share" their devices? (i.e. HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, as I are the same company if I remember right?!)

Re: Natwest Internet Banking Card Reader :-)

Noticed HSBC have been using this new website thing that gives you a code and such. Apparently its harder for people to fraud your card but would still like a card reader

Feels like im missing out now

Re: Natwest Internet Banking Card Reader :-)

(Yes, it's an old thread but I didn't see the need in starting a new one.)

I just received a letter from NatWest informing me that my Card Reader is on its way. I wondered how widespread this feature is now seeing as 5 months have passed this this thread began? Have those who use it found it's now required for transactions outside of the online banking facility?
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Exactly, defeats the object of the whole "online banking" exercise.

Pretty much . . . YEP although I think ive worked out in only asks me to use it when im adding a new person/company to the payments list, although if Im away for anything longer than a weekend Ive gotta try and remember to a) find it, and b) pack it.

Im curious though, do I always have to use my own card reader, or could I just borrow someone elses who is also with Natwest, cause dont the numbers you punch in, identify who you are, rather than that of the machine?
