As has already been said, whether the university will lower it's offer depends on the popularity of the course.
I did physics at university, which isn't a very popular subject these days and the year I entered it was particularly unpopular.
At the age of 16-17, I was quite frankly a moron. I'd done very well in my GCSEs without doing any work and I assumed I could do the same with my A-levels. I ended up getting DDD (and an A in General Studies ). My first choice was Surrey, who wanted BBB. My insurance choice was Reading, who wanted CCC.
I phoned up Surrey and they said that despite my poor grades, my interview was very good so they would let me in. This obviously made me very happy. What made me smile even more was when Reading phoned me up and said "Well obviously you didn't get into your first choice but we'd like to offer you a place".
I was very fortunate though and having bad A-level grades has come back to haunt me when I looked for a job over the summer. In the end I decided to go back to uni to do a masters to prove that I'm not the moron I was at the age of 16-17.
So do you have to have an interview? Also, are you guaranteed your insurance choice?
Weather you get an interview or not depends on your course and uni. Most uni's don't do interviews anymore because they take too much time. If you're applying to oxford/cambridge they'll interview you or if you're doing something which requires you to think on your feet for example law. If you're applying to do some sort of music/acting/dancing course you'll probably have to do a piece at an interview or if you're doing art send them a portfolio.Originally Posted by KeZZeR
You're not guaranteed your insurance choice. For example I had an offer of BBB from Edinburgh, and BBC from Aston (along with other offers) so I put Edinbugh as first choice and Aston as insurance. So if I got BBC and if Edinburgh didn't let me in, I'd go to Aston, but if I got BCC I may not get into either. In the end I got AAB so got in my first choice. If you just miss your grade though its allways worth phoning, telling them how much you wanna go there, give them excuses why you messed up your exams etc and they might let you in.
And yet again the people with the best blaggin skills will go far, as with most things in life.

Yeh, i meant guaranteed by if you don't get the grades for the first choice and enough for the insurance then you will deffo get the insurance choice.
I've just got to decide on what do choose, either:
Computer Science
Computer Sciences
Network Design and Management
Computer Engineering
Computer Technology
So far i've had replies for Computer Science and Computer Sciences, the other ones should come in the next few days. I've got to take a pick of two though :X
Got all my offers
Except Southampton which is wher I want to go. They will tell me when I go and look round there on 25th. So I have got an offer, just don't know what it is.
Inusrance will probably be Surrey.
Electronic Engineering and Telecomunications or similar

I've only chosen portsmouth for a uni and 5 courses from it
I'm meant to go for an "interview" at portsmouth
what are you doing at southampton? they seem to have a standard offer, (well for computer science its 370 for the bsc, and 390 for the meng, but if you get in on the bsc you can transfer to the meng on the first day if you wish)... as for the interview, its just for you to ask questions, and them to ask you a couple, not testing you at all

Can your insurance choice be a choice at the same university?
BBB???? Hard??
come on, sit down, face the books and study!!
try coming to imperial doing aero engineering, that will show you what actual academic work is like
At soton I want to do Electronic engineering and Telecomunications (maybe i should learn to spell it first...lol).
They better give me an offer.
If anyone reading this is from Southampton Uni, put a good word in for me
Hope its not foggy on that day :S...if my flight is cancelled or delayed i will not be impressed!

One thing i noticed, was that the uni's i applied 2 which required 300 points (BBB / ABC) in the ucas book thingy then gave me offers of BCC = 260 which is handy
lol Portsmouth uni was strange (my only bk-up uni i applied to) said they want 280 which is BBC but would let me on with 240 as long as i got a B in English (which is what im gonna study). How friendly
Depending on the course i think they can be quite lenient (spelling needed for an English Lit Degree??? bah!!!!) also if you went to a private school it can be handy so i hear
