It isn't stealing. Theft requires that there is an "intent to permanently deprive" others of their goods. As long as you present the wrapper and pay, there is no intent to not pay. That's why shops wait for shoplifters to leave the premises.
Is it "wrong"? Dunno. Depends on your standards. But I would not do it, nor would I let my kids.
I walk around town with a starbucks quite a lot.
In fact on wednesday I walked around liverpool with a venti peppermint cafe mocha and went into shops. I even put it down on the counter whilst I bought a game. Does that mean i`m going to hell?
going?
your living in liverpool already?

I think its only the people that work for or have worked for these shops appreciate these "manners"... customers usually respect no eating/no drinking if there is a sign saying so... if not, then customers are not doing it to be rude, they are doing it because they are hungry/thirsty/greedy... no harm done though...
Bring it animus
The shop in question didnt have a sign stating no eating/drinking. plus there was nothing on show I could damage as all the games are kept out back.
I'm not sure what the problem is if you actually pay. I've been round Tesco and had to pop open the Smoothie I had. By the time I got to the till it was half full. I paid for it though, of course.
It could be seen as rude if whatever they're eating is spilling out of their mouth because they can't eat with their mouths closed.
And eating something and dumping the wrapper and not paying is plain wrong and people should know better.
I would much rather someone gave their kids a biccy to shut the up (sorry parents ) than have them scream the damn store down. It can be stressful enough as it is.

As always Saracen you are right.
So in essence then I could write a will stating that any item I have not paid for will be paid for upon my death. Is that theft? Its not permanent. The Theft Act 1968 Section1 (1) states that a person is guilty of theft if: he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it.
Stupid laws.
Theft is depriving someone and taking something which isn't yours. The fact that you do not own that pack of double chocolate chip cookies UNTIL you pay for it, is theft. Regardless whether its going to be paid for or not.
So later on, I'm going to unpack an HDTV kick back in a blow up chair and watch some DVD's for a few hours. Then pay for them when I'm done. Is that ethical?
Naa.
As far as I was aware, legally it's only shoplifting the second you LEAVE the store.
So eating then paying is in fact legal.
