Why do you think they wait for shoplifters to leave the store before nabbing them? You can argue it's morally wrong to munch in-store but there's a: no law against it and AFAIK b: no Tesco policy against it either.

Perhaps you could petition Tesco to stamp out this threat to society?

Fair point, but what are the practicalities if you eat fruit that's charged by weight for example?

Nope in that case you CAN'T pay for it, and as you leave should be arrested and beaten.

    Re: Isnt this stealing?

    [RANT]

I work at Tesco(Part time student job), and i consider it rude unless the child really must have it. I don't understand the virtue of patience though, i was an extremely hyperactive child and was still forced to wait for things so why can't everyone else. I would actually stamp out eating in store due to people consuming the product and then leaving the wrapping somewhere without paying for it.

It is stealing when people do it with weighed items such as grapes or cherries as the weight goes down as they consume it until they only have a handful for which they are actually paying. I saw this couple eating cherries around the shop and security saw them, and when they got to the till the checkout lad(my friend) was told to put them through 3 times over as they had eaten so many. At £9.99/Kg or £4.99/kg when they are on half price offer is still pretty expensive.

Also when people get like two plums and 1 passion fruit and stick it in the same bag and try and pass them off as plums...

    [/RANT]

    Re: Isnt this stealing?

Lol, this thread is very amusing.

People get pissed off with the most weirdest things.

As long as they pay for it, why do people get so worked up about it. Haha

"OMG, this person in Tesco emptied a pack of crisps BEFORE going to the counter and then paid for it with the empty packet. My day is utterly ruined such lack of cultural procedure!"

Thumbs up Re: Isnt this stealing?

I don't think it could be classed as stealing if it gets paid for at check out. I don't really see anything wrong with it - although, i i wouldn't do it myself personally. The thought never really comes in to my mind.

I could understand why you might let lil'un's do it, cause they might be making a fuss/tantrum and they are only kids...so you could let em off. But an adult i don't see the need to, and could wait easily.

    Re: Isnt this stealing?

I think for kids it's ok as you can't starve a child if they are hungry or thirsty. But no I wouldn't do it but it's not really stealing if you intend to pay for it at the till.

    Re: Isnt this stealing?

If I bring my own food/drink in, its possible that when checking out, I will be asked to pay for it again...

Well I'm not sure of the legal lingo, but "indecent excretation" must mean doing a dump in public which is surely illegal (unless you are a dog)

As far as I remember from 1st year , when you pick something at the store and take it to the counter, you make an offer, I want to buy this, the shopkeeper can then either accept your offer or reject it, but for business practices they dont usually reject you, but they are under no obligation to sell to you. So i'd say legally you are wrong when you pick up something and eat, but yes if the shop owner allows it, either expressly or impliedly (by watching you do it and saying nothing, or smiling maybe ) then it would be okay, ofcourse you still have to pay, otherwise you have unlawfully appropriated his rights.

The same goes for restaurants, you see the menu, you make an offer when you order, when they bring you your order they have accepted your offer, they are not obliged to serve you, but again, for good business they dont say, go make your wife cook you something at home *?edit* or cook for your wife at home, what ever way you want, just get out
