    Happy with the Current Government?

Just a follow up on a discussing I was having with SIM.

Are you happy with the Government atm?

Have Labour done a good job since coming into power?

Please justify answers with reasons, but don't turn this thread into a slanging match please!

Even if Labour has done a bad job, they were better than the alternative. I think the poll should be rephrased slightly.
"Do you think the Tories would have done a better?"

To be honest Sim. I'm a strong advocate of switching the parties in power as often as possible, I find successive same party Governments get lazy and take things for granted and new Governments actually try to please the public

This kind of ties in nicely with the Tax and £5 per days threads. Overall it goes hand in hand.

I think the poll should stay as is - the above isn't measurable in any meaningful sense whereas labour's performance (or lack of) is.

In my opinion Labour are a lot like the English Football Coach - both were handed a Golden Generation, Labour Financially, and both managed to take them nowhere.

That's true. But were the tories ready last election? To me their party looks like a mess. They have changed things around many times, god knows how many different leaders they have had. They might be ready for the next election. I like the way they are heading, but it still doesn't change my point that in the past they were a worse alternative to Labour.

You can only meaningfully assess performance when you have a benchmark....

Re: Happy with the Current Government?

No, as stated on the other post - you should vote people in on merit only - too many people I know vote Tory/Labour because of their parents, or in my local areas case "Thatcher stole my Granddad's job".

Vote 'em in - keep 'em in if they do well - again like the England Football team - give them a place when they're playing well, not based on their history.

    Interestingly enough:

Support for Labour hits 25-year low - Times Online

Labour's support is at a 25 year low. Change is afoot, let's hope the Tories don't mess it up!

Re: Happy with the Current Government?

No, but then again I don't think the alternatives would be any better.

IMO, they are all liars. They say what the public wants to hear until they get into power.
Watching PMQ's is like watching kids in a playground. One liners and arguing over the same subjects again and again is not what I call serious debate.

MP's voting on their own pay? Getting silly amounts to pay for furnishings in their home? Ain't they supposed to work for us?

I have zero faith in our political system.

    Sim - remember Labour's promises in 1997?
I believe these were them. How do you think they've done on them?

We will make education our number one priority
We will help create successful and profitable businesses
We will get the unemployed from welfare to work
    We will save the NHS
We will be tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime
    We will strengthen family life
We will help you get more out of life
    We will clean up politics
We will give Britain leadership in Europe

Sorry mate - perhaps my poll is a little off the original debate, but it'll still be interesting to see!

Any party would get some instant respect for giving up the cat-calling & sneering, I don't know who they think wants to hear it - who has ever listened to the childish accusations & thought, 'yes, good point, oh how very true' - except their cronies nodding & hear-hearing behind them.

*and to give their kids non-existent jobs.
