    Re: London Mayoral Election

Meanwhile real tangible racist violence and physical attacks have reduced by 50% in the time Ken has been in office, and that's with our current climate of people being heavily anti-immigrant. While everyone's harping on about how the country has gone to the dogs and crime is out of hand, London's crime rate has dropped each of the last five years and murder is down by a quarter.

Oh i'm sorry, next time i see something i dissagree with i'll say to myself, its ok, its for the greater good.

Kristallnacht is fine, so long as other things are getting better?

Heavily anti-immigrant? I really haven't seen any signs of people been this was round where i live work and play. Not a sausage (mabye because me like most of my friends are economic migrants ourself?) Crime rates have gone down in places and up in others, the statistics are also void i would say, because police are bothering to report fewer incidents because of the paperwork involved. What with recorded crime stats we can see that victims of crimes are getting younger and younger as well as a surge in "non middle class" crimes such as gang related violence.

Now a lot of the blame for the problems i think is with central government, particually the rise in red tape. But i do dislike ken's stance towards cohesion.

But to try and justify descrimintation with comments along the lines of "but this has got better" is completely out.

    Re: London Mayoral Election

i would be voting for boris if I were in london. giant douche or turd sandwich, doesnt really matter, but dont pick the same one twice.

I would dare to say those crime figures mentioned above are more to do with the anti-terror climate than anything else.. now is not a good time for criminals.

I was going to vote today, but it seems that Crawley has had a tory council for the last few years, and so change would be good, especially as it seams our new retarded bus service was brought in under them, the same bus service that has twice demolished a house on the route, seccond time just after it was rebuilt.. HOWEVER, my mother works with the labour candidate and he is a lazy tw&t that would be no good. Choices...

    Re: London Mayoral Election

So you're now comparing positive discrimination with kristalnacht yet criticizing me for pointing out that racist violence has actually decreased with this supposed racist in charge? Do try harder.

As for the anti-immigrant sentiment, one only has to look through this and other internet forums (one example springs immediately to mind) to see examples. Surveys have shown it's become far more of an agenda for people today than ten years ago.

    Re: London Mayoral Election

no, i'm mearly saying that i don't think any of it was a result of his doing, more of a generation thats used to been more diverse. Its not as if there have been sharp rises on racist violence outside of london is it?

But we do know that he directly supports discrimination. My point about the whole Kirstalnacht is incredibly valid, as many of the common folk supported it because they where told it would make them safer, and they werent to stand for a religous assisination. Kristalnacht in this example is more of an illsutration of the proccess, than the outcome.

As for immigration, it is for many people a concern, its ok for me to not give a toss, because i'm in a highly paid skillset, my salary is likely to go up as a result of immigration, as well as it helping me as a home owner, with the increased demands for accomodation. I don't have kids, i'm private health'd so its really of no problem for me, but thats not to say I don't see the concerns that a mass influx of people can have. I've yet to see any comments from boris, or policies that are remotely racist, or regretably anything that would seak to address the problems placed on services such as primary schools who have to deal with influx of children whom don't speak english. When the BNP go along lines like that they actually do have a point (one that dosen't in anyway help me, so i assume it would only hinder).

Theres a difference between discrimination, like the scooter fiasco of Kens, and the immigration complaints like those above which are BNP fodder.

Not sure who I am going to vote for yet (or if I am going to vote)... Probably be Ken or I might just not bother going... No way I would vote for Boris... he is a funny guy but I don't want London to fail...

    Re: London Mayoral Election

I really could not decide who to vote on this morning. None of the candidates really impress me, and all of their "mission statements" while i agree with some, there is nobody i agree on totally.

Despite being conservative i really do not want to vote for Boris. I do not agree with him wanting to scrap the congestion charge/change the new £25 higher polluting cars/4x4s rule etc. Seems kind of hypocritical for someone always making a point of being photographed on his bike to be seen to be "green". The congestion charge is probably the best thing Ken has done in his time - so i don't really want some buffoon messing that up... even if he is conservative.

I am just going to abstain from voting this time - along with an estimated 50% of Londoners i believe the statistic is.

    Re: London Mayoral Election

Vote Ken. Londoners do not need a comedian as their mayor.

If none of main three take your fancy [not blaming anyone] what about Lindsey German.

Didnt he say he didnt care about the Olympics being in London and the only reason he liked them being there was that he would have more money to spend on what ever he does.
