There isn't a date yet for it, but the creators of Firefox are trying to beat a Guiness World Record for most downloads in one day. Sounds pretty cool must admit as the download is going to be Firefox 3.

I'll be getting it, am quite impressed with RC1 on XP (although on my Ubuntu install it sucks big style, and i can't work out how to clear it properly).

Clear what exactly? Might be able to help. Using 2.0.0.14 on Ubuntu 8.04, downgraded from 3 beta 5 (eventually!) and its fine!

Seams a cheap way of getting publicity, find some record that dosen't exist yet, and break it.
Given that RC1 still leaks memory like an old person leaks bodily fluids, i don't see the point of rushing to early adopt.

I'm sure it's largely down to my ignorance over Linux file structures (i'm soooo indoctrinated into looking into C:\Program Files\).. I am getting there, but it just takes patience and experience.
I installed Ubuntu 8.04 (i've used older versions in the past, but this was a clean install rather than an upgrade).
It comes with Firefox 3 beta5, which seems to be completely incompatible with any themes and looks ugly as sin (as well as not seeming, to me, to be as fast as FF3 on XP).
If i install FF2, it then seems to also take this 'theme-less' look to it.
And if i try to install FF3 RC1, well... that's where i come unstuck as it's not in a repository that i can find and installing (ie compiling) from scratch makes me quiver with fear
Edit: FF3 still has memory leaks? I must say that my personal experience is that it is quick and responsive, although i'm using it for short periods (less than 2 hour sessions) without many plugins (Adblock plus, i think that's it) and mostly very 'normal' sites (ebay, amazon, yahoo). Used on a P3 1.2Ghz, 768MB RAM laptop.

Use system -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) and search for firefox. Uninstall complete any versions you have. (Make sure you backup any bookmarks!) Then go to places -> home folder. Then click view and show hidden files. rename the .mozilla folder.
Go back to SPM search for firefox and install firefox 2. Sorted. Then you can install your themes and extensions.
