Well, that explains what happened to the blue one they apparrently bought (was mentioned in one of the posts on the marina forum).
*cackle*
What the hell did they expect them to do though, seriously?
I thought the features on the electric cars was quite interesting; was half expecting them to rip the piss out of the Honda at the end, but that looks interesting indeed.
Yeah, that Honda is fairly interesting. Though they did gloss over the amount of energy it currently takes to produce the hydrogen in the first place, despite doing that little edit of all the power lines in the Tesla segment. I know there are new techniques in developmetn to vastly improve the storage, transportation and production of Hydrogen, that wasn't even mensioned.
I did also think it was a shame they were so hard on the Tesla, it is a first generation model after all.
True but it's been a pretty well regarded fact for a long time that Batteries are a stepping stone to hydrogen (or equivalent).
I said it in the last electric car thread and I'll say it again, it's a blind mans solution. Fuel cells are and always have been the next proper step
Once we get a decent infrastructure for hydrogen, batteries will go where they belong.. into their very expensive and energy inefficent recycling/disposal process.
I think TG has been taking steps in the right direction this season what with last weeks thorough and quite impressive Fiesta roadtest and this weeks look at some pretty important steps forward in fuel technology. The fact they managed to do it without taking the piss out of them for looking 'boring' or resorting to childish snipes about how a honking great V8 is just a more 'manly' thing to drive about in was quite impressive.
Although, that said I have to say the 'filler' sections such as the V8 rocking chair and the utterly uninteresting caravan jump were poor. And I'm not being a complete borefest by referring to it as childish nonsense, because I love seeing s*** get blown up (Mythbusters>all) , I simply mean it smacks of sheer desperation. That's the sort of cheap nonsense that came straight from the bottom of the barrell at the production team meeting down the local boozer after a few too many shandies.
I still titter at the jokes, snigger at the childish antics and chortle at the presenters' sideswipes at each other but I have to say, not as much as I used to.
They were spot on the clarity bit, but slow show otherwise.
Think their running out of cars to test and races to have. Vietnam special might be interesting though.
Hydrogen is just another form of battery - and we have practically the same problems with producing and storing that as we do other forms of battery. Very dissappointing for TG to fail to see that.
Hydrogen does has the *potential* to be the best form of battery, but we've known that for years and cars running on fuel cells really aren't anything exciting - the important bit is how we can generate and store the hydrogen.
I was impressed by the Tesla too. Converting that to a fuel cell is entirely feasible, but at the moment it makes more sense not to (uses less electricity to charge a battery than to produce hydrogen from water).
16 laptop batteries. Hmm, how long before you have to change all of them and how much would that cost? Average 9 Cell Dell battery (original) is about £150. £2500 to change the batteries every few years!
I enjoyed the episode.
few more than 16 cells..........

yup, don't know where 16 came from

Monday ... how many was it?
if your doing it in 9 cell packs, then the equiv of 759 of them
i wonder if you can add some more and give it a bit of a voltage boost like you could with R/C cars
