why the hell did they just decide to cut your pay, isnt there legal action you could take?

also i thought those uptight geeks @ ocuk constantly whinged on about the forum having nothing to do with the shop, was you given a reason as to why they banned you?
i was banned on there for having a signature that was slightly too big, first offence aswell!! im sure you'll be a great addition to these boards mate it really is their loss.
isnt the owner of ocuk a fat nazi anyway? or were those just rumours? lol
    Hi JummyBoy

They cut it because they thought they could get away with it, when it happened I guessed it was illegal but I spoke to a mate of mine as she is doing a law degree at UNI and straight away she was like nope completely illegal and give ACAS a call on how to proceed. I aired my grievance verbally which pretty much went by brushed under the carpet but I got the other job offer, needless to say my pay and what was owed to me was paid. However I have still gone with the new job offer because I view it as a career where I can really go places and make a difference.

No reason for me getting banned but I am still mates with the DON's over there and chat to them a lot. I have been banned by the owner which is his decision to make, its his forums and company and he can run them how he see's fit.

Yes will miss a lot of forum members from over there but slowly they are getting in touch anyway and finding me at my new home the forums of Novatech, here and amongst other places.

definatly a good move to take the other job, the fact you were treated like that shows how expendible your seen as!
Fair play for being public about it aswell! hearing how they treat their staff now as well as their customers just makes me even less likely to ever shop there again and im sure i speak for others when i say that!!

Well done for not accepting their terms and moving on. Good luck at Novatech. Do something about their bundles! There's not enough detail in what you get - like exactly what the motherboards are.

Just a word of warning mate, some may find some of the images (mainly piccy 5) in your sig a bit riskay, as this is a family forum

Novatch did get CPCs retailer of the year in 2008 I think Scan has won that for the previous million years so Novatech mustbe pretty decent. I don't think I have ever used them though.

Even if there is, would you want to stay working for a firm where you had to take such legal action? Wouldn't your career prospects be shot to hell if you did? And, on a pragmatic level, if other potential employers find out you sued the last, you risk getting labelled as a troublemaker and damaging your career options elsewhere too.

In other words, even if you could take legal action it isn't necessarily in your own best interests.

I don't know about recently, by in my day, it wasn't quite like that. What they wouldn't allow was things like complaints to be discussed on the forums. Partly, the reason is that there's often things that you don't want to say in public, and that it sometimes hinders getting things resolved, not helping them. There's good and bad both ways, and I don't agree, personally, that it's the best option. I prefer Scan's approach. But then, it's OcUK's business and their choice whether to allow it or not.

Again, I don't know about recent years, but sig sizes were an issue in the past. It started out with them getting bigger and bigger. People also sometimes ignored requests to reduce the size, and even sometimes replaced it after it had been removed by an admin. Well, if that attitude was pushed too far here, it'd get people banned here too.

We also had people complain that they're sig was only a few pixels larger than someone else's, which was only a few pixels larger than .... and so on. Where do you draw the line? If the limit is 100 pixels, do you allow 101? or 105? 110? 125? How much bigger than a limit does it have to be before it's too far over the limit? And if 100 is the limit, and one person uses 103 and you allow it, then next uses 105 and you allow it, the next 107 and you allow it .... well, before you know it you've been nibbled away and you're at 200 pixels, in 2 or 3 pixel increments.

So where do you draw the line?

OcUK drew a line, and one poster (perhaps deliberately, I don't know) created a signature ONE pixel over the limit. This was after it'd been announced that the limits were fixed and firm. He then refused, point blank, to remove or reduce it. He was asked by mods, told by the forum owner and still refused. So he was banned.

As a result, there was a large argument, and a lot of forum members left. This was also at the time TPR was set up, and this argument was part of the reason for the split. For all I know, it was done deliberately to provoke a split. If it was, it worked beautifully, a top-class ambush.

So ..... as a result of that, sig sizes was (maybe still is, I don't know) an issue at OcUK. It was a sensitive subject. I'm surprised if you got banned for a sig slightly too big, without warning, but then, I've been out of the loop at OcUK for some years. Maybe they do do that now. I just don't know.

Well, I haven't seen him for years, and Gibbo would be better informed than me on whether he's fat. But he certainly didn't used to be. Big, though? At (IIRC) 6 foot 7 inches, well yeah, big certainly seems apt.

Nazi? As a forum, we don't want to go there. But I will say that while I was a mod at OcUK, I and all the other mods regularly got accused of being Nazis. Why? Because the forum had rules and we enforced them. If people regularly broke rules and got suspended or banned, it regularly resulted in us being called names. Well, guess what. Call mods or admins here Nazis for enforcing rules, and you'll probably end up banned too. Call other members Nazis and you're walking the same dangerous path.

Typically, we have a more tolerant approach. For a start, we don't have the shop issues to deal with on the forums that they do. We generally also manage to diffuse things, but we have a different set of rules, a different background situation and context. In either forum, though, there are rules and breaking them will only be tolerated up to a point.

For instance, we have sig rules, but re: size, it's more like guidelines than rules. Content though, well, that's different. There are things we wouldn't allow. Depending on what it was, we might ask someone to resize or remove the sig, or if severe enough, we'd remove it. An obvious example of what we'd remove would be illegal material.

But .... if we had a dispute over sig size or content, and someone refused to follow our requirements, such as putting back a sig when it'd been removed, our response would normally be to just disable sigs for that member so they can't use one at all.

That way, we get our rules enforced, and get less accusations of being Nazis for enforcing them.

Now on a political level, is Spie a Nazi? I've never seen anything to suggest he is. Does he believe our immigration policy is out of control? From what I remember, yes. But so do I. Does that make either of us Nazis? Nope.

So I hope that's answered your questions, and satisfied anyone else that might have similar curiosity. Now please, pretty please .... no more discussion of Nazi leanings. It's FAR to easy to level that accusation, especially as the target isn't here to defend himself, and as outlined above, for all too many reasons. This is supposed to be about Gibbo and him joining in here. Let's not let it deteriorate into an anti-OcUK or anti-Spie flamefest. If it does, I'll close or remove the thread.

    HI there

Once I get started will get this looked into, but as they have no stock I am assuming they got a price when it was first launched and have since never re-checked because I know from my days at OcUK they had a price drop shortly after release so should be easily sorted m8.

    Hi m8

Its nothing special really at the moment, an original Intel Bad Axe motherboard, 3GB of assorted DDR2 Memory, an old Kentsfield quad core and a NVIDIA 8800 GTX, did have an ATI card but I kept getting the graphics driver stopped responding sometimes half way through a film which was damn annoying.

Its probably 1-2 years out of date now so once I am settled will be looking to upgrade it or will have a word with some manufacturers to see what they can send me, hehe.

Re: I have departed OcUK - So am I welcome here?

I remember Gibbo now, the days of the old Athon AXIA(?) I think it was, signed up on the OCUK forums and went from there to GSV, then to here...
I also remember issues with Spie from the past being a bit ott with the running of the board and putting his boot/personal issues with people into action on the board, the general concensus being his board his rules, so I left...

    Oh, and Aria Giovanni.... Mmmmmmm
