    Youtube

Ok, been reading some news/articles lately on spam on youtube comments saying the same useless crap that they think they are being smart because its anonymous...

So i had a thought and wondered what peoples views were.

    1. Should you be forced to use real full name as username?

    2. Should comments on youtube videos be closely moderated, maybe even completely remove the function?

    What do you think?

    Re: Youtube

I think comments are a waste of time. Anyone can hide behind a keyboard, and whats to stop them from using a fake name anyway?

Moderation would be good to remove all the useless comments, but then the authors shouldn't just allow blanket comments anyway, moderate them themselves.

    Re: Youtube

I think the idea of groups/authors moderating their own comments, or choosing to have unmoderated comments is a good one.

In any case, youtube staff will still have to step if if there's anything illegal, but it'll remove half the crap that's posted, which I think is a good idea.

    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

i like the idea of some form of moderation, only reason i mentioned the real name thing is america and china are both considering this for using internet in their country.

    Re: Youtube

As good as moderation would be. With the sheer volume of comments posted everyday on Youtube it would be practically impossible to get rid of more than 50% of the BS.

    Re: Youtube

The good thing about the Youtube comments system is that it allows absolutely anyone to make a comment on most of the videos on the site.
The bad thing about the Youtube comments system is that it allows absolutely anyone to make a comment on most of the videos on the site.

Some of my videos have moderated comments, but they don't get that many views, so I don't have much trouble. It is fun arguing with people who have no sense of irony though. One of our videos contains very brief footage we took of Waitrose in Droitwich Spa. The soundtrack we put on the top calls it an Asda. For several years, people have been getting really annoyed and telling us we got it wrong. We keep denying it.

Winding up stupid people is fun. And there are plenty of stupid people on Youtube. People that have probably worn out the G, A and Y keys on their keyboard because they've typed them so much.

    Re: Youtube

I read a really scary (well, it said it was anyway) chain letter on youtube comment a while back...
They don't bother me but plenty of people panic about them. People who write them are just idiots.

    Re: Youtube

Well thats why youtube add "Mark as Spam" and that + and - rating of comments.

    Re: Youtube

The vast majority of youtube comments are uninformed crap. A few are helpful. Fewer still are very funny.

But I can't personally see a way in which the system could work any better than it does now.

I sometimes post encouraging comments, and very occasionally disparaging ones. Last one of those was a comment on 'Boom Bye Bye' by Buju Banton. My thought process works thus:

    1. It's apparently fine to post up a song that advocates the murder of homosexuals.

    2. So it's fine for me to post a comment calling it utter crap.

    3. While I fancy my chances in a casual streetfight against a homophobe or two, there are some genuine nutters out there so I should not have to post any personal information with my comment.

    Re: Youtube

Moderation would be great. However there is a simple solution: Don't read the comments.

Most of them are garbage anyway.

    Re: Youtube

The solution is simple, just click the arrow next to comments

Video screencapped without the permission of Messrs Fishcake
    |Kata: "Read title as 'fisting'. Not sure why I clicked. Relieved, really."|
    |TAKTAK: "It was so small that mine wouldn't fit into it"|
