My thoughts exactly Zak, as a little kid I loved him, for his music and for his performances, easily the greatest pop star of all time, but equally controversial.
"His" kids look nothing like him, whose kids are they? Does no one care about this? He was clearly not in the right frame of mind to be caring and looking after children, and I am not talking about paedophilia, as this was never proven, I’m talking about looking after his kids, caring, loving, and showing some compassion, he never came across as someone who showed any of that to "his" kids.
That whole dangling his baby over the balcony, careless, god knows what else he did. He really lost it towards the end of his career.
As you correctly assumed I was unaware of the information you have provided, and allowed my personal bias to reflect in my post.
I therefore unreservedly apologise to anyone I may have offended, I personally do not like MJ (Perhaps it's part of being a grumpy old ** almost as much as other factors which have affected my viewpoint)
I have vague recollections of Elvis dying, mainly because my aunty was a big fan and we where at hers when we heard the news. I was only 5 at the time so its all a bit hazy
On the subject of MJ, I dont feel anything TBH (well no thats wrong I'm starting to get fed up with all the coverage) I think its part of society today that some people feel the need to engage in collective maudlin grief, not my thing at all TBH
There was a fair amount of pubicity, but nothing like the TV and media coverage that this has caused.
I remember being in my car with my (at the time) future wife and she burst into tears when Elvis's death was announced on the radio, neither of us believed it, much like I assume MJ's death affected todays younger generation (as opposed to old fogeys like me)
However to put it into context, there were no specific music channels on TV and it was also before satellite TV was easily available in the UK (Only extremely wealthy people had Satellite TV in 1977) so there was no way the death of Elvis could get the same sort of publicity.

There is only so much I can take now. The whole thing about it is driving me nuts. Sure it was bad when Diana died, its worse, and over in the US I am told its even worse. Its going to be one of those things thats going to dominate the news and radio and TV for a long while. Best grab yourselves some films or something.
Sure he was very talented but give it a rest and stop continuing to milk it!!
Decided to watch some of the memorial service earlier which was.....interesting to say the least. Some parts of it made me remember what an absolute musical genius was behind that increasingly bizarre exterior, other parts were far too contrived I personally thought...
No one can really deny that MJ had a massive influence on pop music, and for that he should be commended, although personally I think there is some dubious circumstances over his death I am not the kind to loose sleep over his death.

But just one thought. If MJ hadn't died, would you have been one of the many devouted fans who were buying up tickets for his comeback tour?
I do not think MJ would even have bothered with the tour if he was not in debt. I'm sorry. I genuinely believe that.
So many bands I have liked with talented people who have died. All who wrote better music IMO and deeper, lyrics. All of whom have sold crap loads of music and as a result are millionaires.
MJ was just a person. Maybe he could dance okay. I do not think his music or lyrics were anything special. I guess now his family are going to try and milk every bit of money they can out of this.
And did anyone else see taht video that apparently had MJ's ghost in it? ££££££
I feel sorry for his children, they will no doubt have just as weird an upbringing as MJ did, not being able to experience a childhood in any sense that we can relate to.
It all depends on how someone impacts on your life as to how you react to their death. I appreciate MJ's talent as a performer, but beyond that, I feel unaffected, but it's not for me to criticize their grief. It is of course a shame that it is such a media circus, but unsurprising.
The deaths of Spike Milligan, Lee Brilleaux and John Peel are the only times I felt moved, because they had an impact on my life in some way.
