But just one thought. If MJ hadn't died, would you have been one of the many devouted fans who were buying up tickets for his comeback tour?

I do not think MJ would even have bothered with the tour if he was not in debt. I'm sorry. I genuinely believe that.

So many bands I have liked with talented people who have died. All who wrote better music IMO and deeper, lyrics. All of whom have sold crap loads of music and as a result are millionaires.

MJ was just a person. Maybe he could dance okay. I do not think his music or lyrics were anything special. I guess now his family are going to try and milk every bit of money they can out of this.

And did anyone else see that video that apparently had MJ's ghost in it? ££££££
its not me who said that but someone from the ceremony. Yes his music and dance may be average at best to some people but the way he changed the genre of music, the way he brought different race and religion together with his music and to boot, gave soo much to charity more then any music artist(guineas book of records) deserves more respect then the average music artist out there.

Can anybody name me one artist that has changed the way we hear and see music artist perform plus give soo much of their time and money to others?

he has contributed more and gave a huge impact in music entertainment more then any other music artist i know imo unless you or someone else can pin point me another artist that has done the same if not better.

About the tour, yes its obvious he did it for the money to get out of debt because of all the court cases he had but what's wrong with that? he just wanted to clear his debt and live a nice peaceful life with his family and friends. i don't see nothing wrong with that.

I didn't book tickets because initially i thought the tickets where over £200 for one but realized too late that the majority of them where only £50 which i would have been happily to pay for.

You have got to realize that its not just his talent and ability that made him such an iconic figure in this world, but the way he cared for others and the way he changed the way we see and hear music back in the 80's.

no doubt there are many that can probably dance better or maybe sing better but how many has made such a big positive impact like MJ?

I had tickets - I'm not a devouted <sic> fan (I don't own any white gloves) but I recognised his talent and was genuinely looking forward to seeing him perform.

His music is what I like, not the media's portrayal of his politics.

The deaths of Spike Milligan, Lee Brilleaux and John Peel are the only times I felt moved, because they had an impact on my life in some way.

Re: MJ thread. DO NOT READ IF MJ'S DEATH HAS UPSET YOU

I was in Glastonbury when he died......I couldn't think of a better time for it to happen.....I was cut off from the news for 6 days lol, first I knew of it was some guys walking around with "I was at Glastonbury when MJ died" T-shirts, followed by a tribute from Dizzee Rascal.

Shame I still have been bombarded with the ceremony news the last couple of days though.....and I feel there is plenty still to come

He was a dubious charater IMO, so much so that I can't help but feel that there was something very wrong with him. Too many out-of-court settlements, way too much surgery......more then a screw loose IMO.

I just wonder if we will ever know the whole truth behind what happened with him over the years.

i think the main difference is that celebrity culture has changed dramatically since elvis died, in particular with the internet. MJ is probably the most famous person to have died since the internet became popular, even when diana died, the internet wasn't as common in peoples homes around the world

so with MTV and cable tv becoming widespread around it world, it meant more shows were required to fill the channels, so cheap celeb crap was used, people lapped it up and it snowballed. magazines turned a lot more trashy, i don't recall magazines of the likes of OK, hello, nuts, zoo etc being popular in the 70s, and even the sun and the star weren't as full on back then

so in the years since elvis, with stars like MJ, the tabloids and magazines started printing weird stories, and then the internet took off and let a billion keyboard warriors post whatever the wanted, some became "celebrities" themselves, like perez hilton. sites like TMZ would have the latest gossip online within minutes, including video footage, so celebs couldn't escape from any minor indiscretion being made public across the world

what is also different, is people in general, in that an older generation of people are still embracing pop music and culture, being 40+. 50+ and 60+ doesn't mean you no longer listen to pop music etc, but back in the 70s you couldn't imagine many 50+ people having an interest in pop music, thus there is a far bigger audience for celebrity gossip these days

i was wondering what the reaction would have been had MJ not have been involved in his child abuse scandals. that's what seems to have torn people down the middle more than anything about MJ. people love his music, but a lot of people won't admit it and will just put him down as they don't want to associate anything positive towards someone they believe is a child molester. there will be others who will completely seperate the music from the personal life, and enjoy thriller etc but still slag him off. there are a number of things to joke about, from his drug use, plastic surgery, pet monkey and fairground, but in death these would be overlooked if he didn't have a real scandal like the child abuse cases. elvis had his fare share of weird stories, he took drugs and was about to go bankrupt too when he died, but he didn't do anything that could be used against him in a negative way, people will look on elvis and say it was a shame he was involved with that, but with MJ people will say, he just should have stayed away from the kids

so if MJ had stayed away from the kids, but was still as succesful until his death (or not successful as he hasn't been for a few years), in other words if nothing had changed except there were no kiddie abuse cases, and people didn't hate MJ because of it, and could celebrate, appreciate and grieve his life and death without that dark cloud, just imagine how things would be right now, and had his child abuse cases not stalled his career, even though he might not have released such a great album after his last, he would have probably been even more in the public mind. then again, if that didn't happen he probably wouldn't have died right now, as it seems a combination of drugs for stress and other ailments, plus the stress etc of the tour, resulted in his death in one way or another

i think it's a real waste of a talent, he could sing in the studio, he made some great records, he also made a few mediocre tracks on his later releases, but for a talented singer to be lip synching on stage and giving preferance to dancing instead of singing live, that's the real waste. we never even got any tv specials like unplugged where he just stood onstage and sang (ie. like elvis 68 comeback special). the thing is, the way things were going, it didn't look like that was ever going to happen if he didn't die, from the rehearsal clip it just looked like another lipsynching extravaganza like the previous tours, and even the choreography was the same as before. out of a 3 hour rehearsal, surely they could have found a 2 minute clip of him doing something new or singing live? that really can't have been the best example to show how he was getting on with the tour

anyways, it's an incredible hoopla for a guy who just sang and danced, from the reactions of some of his fans you would have thought he was the offspring of jesus and mother teresa, the public showing more emotion towards someone they never knew and never met, than they would of their own friends and family. that's how wrong the world has became

However, I don't generally get too upset when celebrities die (they aren't the only ones dying afterall)
    I know........its getting stupid isn't it.
The bloke was a singer and dancer. Thats all

WHen i heard MJ was dead i can honestly say i was more upset last time i lost a quid.

I felt nothing when I heard of MJ's death.

But I felt sorry when Jade Goody died. I have no idea why. But she never harmed no one.

Neither in the eyes of the law did Michael Jackson.
Let's remember that. I'm all for saying there's a possibility, and it's plausible, but possibility and plausibility do not equal guilt.

Jade Goody was an absolute nightmare. I feel bad for any Mother dying so early and leaving her kids behind, but she was in the media/public eye for years, lingering on, and for what? Being thick and getting her hotbox out in public? Nice. At least Jackson had an undoubted talent and left a huge legacy in his music, which will be played for years and years to come. Jade left bad perfume and worse books.

Comparing the two isn't exactly cricket

I thought it was a decent post but I also think that got it wrong there. Individually, I don't think that most people are as affected by his death as would of their friend and family. However, MJ has, at the very least, a tiny bit of influence to most of his fans at some point. So what we have is hundreds of million fans, if not more, show a varying level of emotion towards the man who may have contributed in their memory via their songs. I reckon that the fans are showing more emotion toward his death than the death of someone they do not know who had zero influence on them that they know of. Granted, you are going to get unusual cases - but I doubt that's the norm.
