Lunar Landings; End of the speculation?

    There's been plenty of conspiracy theories during the 20th Century, but one of my favourites is the "Did NASA really land on the Moon?". Now here we have it... the LRO is in orbit and has cameras capable of 1m and 3m resolution of the surface;

I'm wondering whether they will release pictures of the landing sites

They did land on the moon, they set up a laser alignment where if you shine a laser at the moon it will reflect in a certain way. Source being an episode from Mythbusters Season 7! How are people still debating it?

I'm a believer too and not much into many current conspiracy theories. As Andehh says above the daily measurements from the reflector on the moon to Earth prove someone landed up there. Plus the space race was a product of the Cold War; the Russians would've been quick to point out any dodgy stuff.

I love reading and watching programs about the Apollo missions. Utterly spellbinding, inspiring stuff and it possibly represents mankind at one its finest points in history. From the genius of the engineering to the sheer balls of the astronauts. Epic stuff.

I fully expect the loonies to cook-up convincing explanations as to why the photos appear as they do when/if they show up though...

People will just claim these pictures are fakes to. Also remember that there are around 6 - 7 landings on the moon since Neil's first steps with the whole Apollo program that was constantly back and forth to the moon over the following decade afterwards.

The conspiracy theorists will state that the Russians wouldn't of known what the moon was like anyway as they never made it there.

It's all swings and round abouts, we will never know either way. Although they are talking about going back there by 2018 so we can just sit back and see what happens.

I am with Pollaxe though, the last few days of TV on BBC Four etc have been captivating. Love watching shows about the moon landings and the problems they had etc.

Or you could go re-read what I said, I never said I didn't think they went to the moon. I was stating a fact that both Pollaxe's and ajones comments show that both sides will find something or another to counteract each other. This is how conspiracy theories work, tbh if it was a conspiracy by now someone would of let slip that it was all faked which is why I reckon they did get on the moon. Also if that was a fake then what about Apollo 12, 13(we know what happened here), 14, 15, 16 and 17 all landed on the moon with Apollo 10 being the trial to get to orbit. There is no way 8 flights were faked and several moon landings.

To be honest, what difference does it make whether he said someone did land on the moon or not?

Not everyone is going to believe it happened and everyone will come up with reasons why it did or didn't happen.

Just thinking now I can come up with atleast 3.

People have opinions, don't bash them for them.

And in all honesty, this comment: -

Why don't you go tell Buzz Aldrin that to his face ?
    - Sounds a little immature and something a child would say, I am assuming your not a child?

    LOL

To be honest there is a lot of information on the side of the conspiracy theorists to back up their claims and the same with those that worked at NASA. The one thing that doesn't help the theorists are those that say no matter if they were shown pictures of the landers or not it would not change their mind about it being faked as they say they were put there later when technology allowed.

I would like to think we did land on the moon but at times you do wonder if they did.

DisturbedGuy, you get used to the immaturity of those on forums these days. Growing older by the year and watching the next batch of kids hitting the net, this is why I am glad places like this exist as this kind of thing rarely happens.

Either way the moon landings are at the back of my mind mostly, I am more interested in the Chernobyl disaster and have a good chuckle at the conspiracy theories behind that. Would love to know how a nuclear power plant explosion was faked xD Yet there are those that would call it a fake on the Soviet's part

Re: Lunar Landings; End of the speculation?

I have never really thought about conspiracy theories, I have discussed a few, but never really felt the need to look into them.

I would like to think that if I didn't believe something, such as a conspiracy theory like this, if I were given proof then I would believe. I wouldn't blindly deny it happened out of pure stubborn ness.

Thats like being shot in the knee, having a huge scare there and then denying it ever happened to those that were around you when it did.

This is why I look into them a little, it's more on the side of me finding it interesting looking into someone else's train of thought and their theory. Problem is you take both sides of the story in and you tend to find a lot that those of the theorists will release a mass of information constantly to prove their point then those that are being told they faked it tend to keep quiet and let the theorists hang themselves on their own ramblings.

Thing is, for me, a lot of these theories just don't ring true as especially with the Moon landings, 40 years and not one person has let slip by accident.

I always thought that conspiracy theoriests always had to pick and choose which bits of information to use. Anything that goes against your view, no matter how valid it may seam you ignore. Anything that remotely supports your course, you exhagerate and downplay any credability issues.

Its the same thing as religion only it makes less money.

So disappointing that the height of human achievement was in 1969.

Nixon and the neocons have so much to answer for.
