Old thread, but quite a lot of info there (although haven't read all the way through this one, so dunno if it's all covered).

Also, I found the phrase "parlez-vous Anglais, s'il vous plaît" helped me quite a lot whilst I was out there, my French sucks.

    Re: Anyone been to paris?

London museums are free, you only pay for exhibitions.

The Louvre is about 10 euroes, but you can get it cheaper if you don't want full day iirc (i used to work with a lot of frenchies)

    Re: Anyone been to paris?

quick question lads. seeing as im staying near the eiffel tower. are their any boats along the siene river that do a hop on hop off kinda deal? there are quit a few places along the river that i would like to see and wondering if there is a boat that goes across all of them and i can freely hop on and off the boat.

    Are they cheap?

    Re: Anyone been to paris?

Yes there is a river bus service its called the "Batobus", there are also tourist boats, which are well worth going on if you have not been on one before. If you going on the metro a lot do NOT buy single tickets from the machines (the queue sucks anyway), buy a book of 10 from the "tabac" in the station they getting on for half the price. Fortunately I went with my gf who is fluent in french so language was not a problem. All I needed to be able to say was "Jambon et Fromage Bagette S'il vous plait". We went to Paris so i could see Depeche Mode. I did think the prices there were very expensive however you need to remember the value of the pound has dropped by 1/4 over the last year.

I am sorry I don't know the answer to that one, as my GF did all the travel planning prefering to use her language skills. Paris however does have LOTS of metros and its pretty easy to work out where to change. On the way back from my concert, they let everyone on the metro for free! And had special trains held that the station to take everyone from the Stade de France into the city centre. You don't get that in London!

    how was it mate?

    i really enjoyed it!!!
went for a 3 hour bike round around paris on the friday night and then ended on a boat tour which was fantastic seeing paris all lit up at night!
saturday and sunday went wandering around to the eiffel tower and the louvre which was absolutly incredible - the best museum i have ever been to, could have spent days looking around.
stayed in a really nice hotel and it was really easy getting around using the metro - infact i prefered the metro to the london underground, considering when i got back into london last night the victoria, jubilee and metropolitain lines were closed and others had many stations closed! not a single hiccup or delay using the much cheaper metro!!
