Forget pandas. We should focus our efforts on looking after Red Pandas, AKA the Firefox.

Wildlife expert "sorry" for panda remarksSpringwatch presenter Chris Packham has apologised for claiming that pandas should be left to die out.
The wildlife expert sparked criticism after suggesting that the species had "gone down an evolutionary cul-de-sac" and only received attention from the public for being cute.
pfft chicken, now his views will die out.
Now you know the best way to preserve the panda? Allow the sale of farmed Panda meat.
Look at the number of farmed chickens, they aren't nearly approched extinction even with all the inbreading.
Kentucky Friend Panda, which is Finger ling ling good might just save em imho.

Which is probably correct. They say the pig, sheet and cow would all be endangered if we didn't farm them, certainly in this country at least.
I say it with a bit of my usual style, but yes, it is really obvious, if there was a continued market for panda meat, with demand for it in quantity at low price, they would be prevelant.
Since we've stopped eating rabbit in blighty, the numbers have declined.
Obviously there are certian problems with this, like the spanish and fishing, or even us and cod.

The cod thing really gets me - we need to rename one of the other many barely perceptibly different white fishes to cod. It's not like anyone would be able to tell the difference. Always makes me laugh when someone says "ewww... I don't like haddock [or whatever fish it is] I always order cod" or similar. Like WTF? There's barely any difference by the time you've battered, deep fried and smothered it in salt / vinegar / lemon juice / gravy...
Deep fried panda on the other hand... In fact that red panda looks tasty. Bet you'd get a good gamey bit of meat off it... (and yes I am joking, mostly)
Oh and I have had irregular arguments with vegetarian types about the fact that various cattle would be extinct if they were being bred for eating, etc. One of my friends somehow seems to think the sheep, cows and pigs would be frolicking happily in the woods if we didn't bred them for food and so on.
Actually, i'm not a fan of Hokie(or what ever that auzzie fish that a place near my parents peddle is called) or Haddock. Then again I have fish n chips so rarely, I'd probably be willing to pay for sustainably sourced Cod, like I do with most of my sea food I buy myself.

The Hokie Cokie?
I thought Pollock / Coley / Rock Cod was fished in those parts (same fish, different names AFAIK).
And yes - I try to buy sustainably sourced cod too (and outdoor reared / free range Pork and free range Chicken) - and I obviously have nothing against that (and I also appreciate the argument of champange socialism / being able to afford to do so). It's just the narrow mindedness many (most?) people in this country apply to food. On that note my mother in law (living as an ex-pat in Cyprus) often comments on her dislike of the 'foreign' food which I have to remind her is actually domestic food for her now... She appears to exist on omelettes, cheese toasties and similar.
From Big Yellow Taxi:
They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till its gone...
