Most people have their vices. You'll end up a very gloomy person if you get pissed off with strangers whom you'll never see again because they do something you do not agree with. I can understand someone fell on you, keep bumping into you in crammed space etc., but not for the listed reasons.
Still, I do not have the impression that people who consume a fairly large amount of alcohol or tobacco face the same amount of stigma, simply because you can't tell from the outside how much they've rotted themselves inside. Well, apart from obvious drunks walking down the streets.
But even someone who do not smoke in public but goes through several pack in the privacy of their home lack as much self-control one who consumes 2500 calories PER meal in my opinion. And as for laziness, maybe when it comes to exercise (at the very least, to the extent required by the amount of calories they consume). But I am sure that there are many overweight people who are working hard for their families working in challenging jobs that requires them to sit long hours. And many slim people are lazy in aspect other aspect of their lives, but do not get the same abuse because again, it doesn't show as obviously through their outward appearances.
I should point out that I'm not talking about myself, rather my perception of why people would choose to abuse people with a weight problem. Personally I'm of the opinion that fat people have enough problems to deal with without any third parties adding to their woes......social stigma, high blood pressure, furred arteries, increased risk of various cancers, diabetes, stroke, liver disease, sleep apnea.....

There really are some completely misguided children on these forums. Grow up, really.
I do agree that people should take full responsibility for the cards they're given. But there's 52 cards in a full deck, and they're not always shuffled in a way that will give you a winning hand.
I'm not about to give an excuse, I'm about to give a scenario that happens to apply in my case.
I'm 20 stone. I'm obese, according to my GP. My BMI (Bollocks Index) is something like 29. Bollocks in most cases of course, if I was my ideal weight (circa 16 stone) then I'd still be obese according to my BMI.
Why? Why am I a fat bastard? My own fault, really. Noone else to blame. But there's a reason, just like there's a reason for many people being fat. Yeah, fat, not overweight, large or big boned. But I do have a mental condition which makes me a bit more fragile than usual. As a result, I do tend to "snack" more than I should. No reason, no benefits, just because it's there and my "issue" of hyperactivity lends itself to doing something at *all* times. Eating helps that, because it's doing something.
Am I putting extra strain on the NHS? No. Cholesterol level of 4.9. I'm really rather fit, considering. I can still run 100 metres faster than my brother who works out daily and has the stereotypically muscley and rippled yet skinny body - just under 13 seconds at last count. And I'm nearly 30. Slight allergic asthma, not diabetic. I do however only attempt such things whilst wearing a tight shirt, otherwise my podge bounces too much It's just not easy to shift the weight, despite being stupidly active at work, walking an average of 6 miles a day, lifting an average of 2 tonnes a day. I'd like to shift that weight, but obviously it's going to take a change to my diet and thus, my mental state for that to happen.
Point? Just because someone's fat, doesn't automatically lump them into the same category as the idle bastards that do actually sit around doing nothing, living off benefits and clogging up the NHS's arteries in the way they do their own. And oddly enough, there's thin people doing exactly the same, people filling their bodies with ****, lining their lungs with tobacco, stomachs with the sort of drugs you'd kill horses with and murdering their livers with an alcohol intake that'd make George Best look teetotal.
This is what society is turning into. People don't take responsibility for their own actions or the consequences that follow. And because people are sheep, this isn't something that is likely to change. One person can make a difference for their own, or maybe their family's sake, but that's not enough to make a difference to everyone else around them.
Be fat, who cares. Be a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish, who cares. Smoke, who cares. Just accept the consequences.
Moo.

I have the reverse problem, I'm naturally superskinny, I have to so work at putting & keeping weight on
I dont abuse fat people at all/never have. At school becuase i was very broad and my chest came out further than my stomach it gave the impression that my belly was sticking out, now people calling me fat at school becuase of this rreally botherd me even though i wasnt fat but it made me think i was. So i really dont know or understand how people can be rude and horrible enough to mock and point at someone who already knows they are large.
( Most heated thread ive read on hexus thus far. )
You just can't tar every obese person with the same brush, as there are a myriad of different reasons they are so. Most are genetically predisposed for overly efficient fat storage & that's about it. I do try not to discriminate, unless I'm on a long-haul flight, then I'll admit to getting a trifle disgruntled.
Seriously, where have you been?
ddddd
