Weirdest phone call ever..

Got a phone call at 3am this morning. Phone was on a low volume so I briefly remember it going off but noticed in the morning I had a voicemail.

The person ringing was from the Australian Student Service.. and basically said I had an incomplete application for a student loan, and needed my DOB, and address. Over the phone she gave me my forename and surname and obviously had my mobile phone number..

The numbers she asked me to ring her back on look like UK numbers (one been a mobile) - which I'm about to ring now via skype to see who picks up (not going to give any details!).

Not quite sure if this is a scam or a joke, but she is called Mildred Hubble, which I thought sounded familiar and after a google it's a character from harry potter..

I wouldn't ring the numbers back, chances are they're a premium rate number designed to look like a mobile (070xx IIRC?)

Not sure if the area code is right for this local one but its: 01318. And for the mobile number it's 078, so definitely not a premium number.

Only got about a quid in my skype account anyway so I'm not too fussed.

Well the obvious question, have you applied for any sort of student loan?

0131 is the area code for Edinburgh IIRC.

Sounds like a scam though to be honest to mine personal data

Well I'm not sure what to think really! The 0131 number is a digit too long, listened to the message about 3 times and I definitely have it right. However when I ring the mobile number, nobody answers and it goes to the answer phone of someone called Daniel..

I wouldn't bother wasting any more time with it tbh, obviously a scam of some sort, unless you have applied for a student loan in Australia!

Just delete the message and move on. Report it to your provider if you keep getting them.

I got a really odd call lately too, it was a friend calling on my mobile but then the lines were seriously mixed and I ended up talking to a woman, then a very angry northerner
First time I've ever had lines crossed on a mobile to mobile call..
Doesn't help that I was half awake and utterly confused.

What surprises me is the amount of people who still think spam calls might be for real.

Delete the nessage, forget it, move on.
