You're barking mad...
I would have one but it's not practical until I have a more permanent base. Those 'portable' AC are at best 'transportable', but if I find a 21" CRT monitor too much hassle to move, an AC is only worse.
I suspect that it's more about acclimatisation. I have lived abroad for over 20 years, mainly in hot places. I love the heat. I particularly love it when it's extreme, but I have an air-conditioned bedroom. When I moved to Bahrain in 1982 getting off the plane, in August at 40+C, was like walking into a sauna, but I loved it, having previously lived there and in Iran, and other hot places.
Paris in 2003 was the sack-crack. It was very, very humid and never above 30C. It was dreadful because it was so middling. Hotter would have been OK, and colder would have been OK, but I was not acclimatised to 30C.

Must be a fairly old fashioned name. A quick Google image shows no lady under the age of maybe 40. Though I did dig up a face palm of sort: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mojosmom/2442068150
I thought those were slices of cake, not books.. Erm.. anyway..
Just spotted this whilst bimbling through the web, I thought it may be of interest but for me, anything above around 16c is too hot.
