minimum dread extension hair = 2-3 inches...bear in mind thin silky hair they will come out pretty quick, coarse or afro hair they stay in better.

i had emzay round the other day to help me put my wraps in. Didnt do all my hair, just had 8 at the top of my head so when i put it up in bunches it looked quite funky. However i had to take them out yesterday cos they were hurting my scalp and putting too much pressure on my hair's roots. It was a shame cos they were pretty, however i'm going to make me some new dreads and put them in.

edit: sweuzo, have you thought about making your own dreads/falls? they're really easy to do and cost a fraction of the price you would pay for premade ones!

i have all the kit to make my own dreads, just haven't the time.

dreads are EXTREMELY heavy! so if wool wraps? hair wraps?, were bad dreads will be much worse, braids weren't too bad, but it does take a few weeks for your hair to get used to the weight, (but it does), you need braid spray (to stop scalp itchyness and keep it all in good condition), and if u must wash ur hair during the time you keep in the extensions (braids n dreads come out REALLY BAD when you wash them, especially if you don't get someone to do it tight enough) so if you can go without washing it for 3-5 months then do. you can rub diluted teatree or mint oil into your scalp to stop itchies.

i had my dreads done by a friend and loads like just fell out, so i took them all out after 4 days and made the dreads into falls and sold them on ebay. my braids i wore for about 2 months before they started to look **** cuz i washed it all once a week.

european hair, unless its very coarse and frizzy, really isn't made for these kind of extensions, you can have them but its likely to come out pretty quickly, well much quicker than afro hair. (i have an afro friend and we both had braids at one point).

i'd much rather get them done proffessionally and have them last longer than a DIY job that takes hours to fall out after a few days.

proffessionals can probably do it in about 2-4 hours, if ur an amature it can take much longer...

the reason it hurts your scalp is because it was tight & the weight, but really the tighter the better it will stay in!

yeah i know, i only had 8 in tho so it wasnt too bad to take them out, they kept getting tangled in my loose hair too. they were jumbo braid hair wraps. I plaited my hair with some jumbo braid then wrapped it with some more. It was all nice and tight and looked quite cool, but were getting on me nerves. Once i've done my single ended dreads and plaited them into my hair they should be ok.
