How is your internet connection at the moment?

My net connection has been cripplied for more than two days now.

I've been on the phone to Karoo (my ISP) just now about the problem. They claim there is evidence of latency along various adjacent network routes in Europe and Internationally.

    http://support.karoo.co.uk/cgi-bin/status.pl

If you look down the history you can see how fobbed off I have been.

If SOME customers are having the problem, then why am I having the problem all the time, and how is it quite as widespread as they claim?

I get the feeling that Karoo have an appauling infrastructure and take shortcuts when it comes to providing service.

If anybody else is finding that many websites will not load or load extremely slowly, please vote accordingly in the above poll, also let me know what ISP you're on.

I warned Karoo that i'd be doing this "survey" to see how true the information they've given me is. Obviously many of you won't be on the same routes as me, but I'm more annoyed with the lack of feedback and seemingly poor response time in locating and resolving the problem.

    Thanks guys,
    Kez.

Kez, there are sites that already have this sort of data for you, I can't remember the names off hand as i'm on a new laptop and not got all my useful bookmarks here.

But there are sites out that that will highlight higher latencies in Europe routes, transatlantic routes etc etc...

I'll see if i can remember them but a google wouldn't be out of the question and will be more convincing than a poll here

Holy sheep... thats some ****e ISP you've got dude in Hull.

I know you cannot change ISP as Hull has a unique telephone infrastructure but I for one would be kicking and screaming at their head office over a service like that.

The best thing to do is ask this poll on a karoo user website (if there is one) and then we can have a look at the results from only 1 ISP and get a true indication of the performance.

No big problems here and I'm on 56k

Have noticed it seems to be dropping the line quite a bit recently though.

Any latency problems and general interenet traffic stuff should show up at the Internet Traffic Report. That should be more reliable than your ISP

There have been some nasty spikes in the global response time over the last week but in general it seems pretty even.

Sounds like a crock to me, I mean the fastest route will be negotiated by tcpip unless you are having the problems at their end in which case the packets have no choice until they leave that net.
Do a pathping www.hexus.net >pathping.txt and see what it dumps, that should be good info to be starting with, post it in here if you need an analysis.

    check my ISP's status page -: http://status.bulldogdsl.com

nothing ... nothing is on that page at all ... pfft lazy sods

If you provide us with some tracerts to a few various websites both UK and US based we can see if there is a pattern to the issue and as such you can then relay the information back to your ISP.

Hexus works fine, and since I complained, I seem to be having fewer problems. Don't you find that amazing?

NOPE its called Sod's Law mate

Same thing happened with my "tempermental" ADSL line. Everytime a BT engineer came to see the line it behaved until he left. It took months to find the fault in the end.

My line is spot on, that's the thing.

A friend who lives down the road shares my troubles, as does the cyber centre down the road, and they're on 2Mbit fibre!

The thing I find amusing is that the other day my IP was 80.x.x.x but today it's 213.x.x.x - it's usually in the latter range. The other day was the first time I'd seen the 80 range used. I get the funny feeling that Karoo have been tinkering...

A pathping to problem sites would give you some ammo, it is a mix between a ping and a traceroute with response times for all hops given and packet losses per hop too, good ammo to hit back at them with, just a suggestion.
