Dracula - Bram Stoker
next: Our Mutual Friend - Charles Dickens
this is what happens when you ask your English studying friends for books...never knew Bram Stoker was a Maths grad though!
Just re-read some of my terry pratchett books
In between books atm, I am a compulsive reader and get through books very very quickly so I tend to buy them from charity shops as it just too damn expensive otherwise.
My next purchase will probably be the next Harry Potter book.
Ohh and I like Lee Child books as well, and David Gemmell.....oooh and Tolkien.

Currently reading:
No Second Chance - Harlan Coben
The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic - Sophie Kinsella
However it takes me ages to get through a book cos I dont generally get much free time and study is going to be taking priority over everything again soon!

Teaching Foundation Stage (more uni)
to be read -
want to read frank skinners autobiog again
and ricky tomlinsons autobiog again**
I read Birdsong a while back and found it the same as Zak. On the other hand I can't read Tom Clancy's Netforce and Op Centre books as I find them comic book. Yet his 'life of Ryan' (for want of a better phrase) series of books have been collected and read repeatedly.
Has anyone read any books by Robert Harris? Enigma, Fatherland....etc? I can't make my mind up if I like the way he ends, or rather doesn't end, his books. He kinda leaves you in mid air. Good books though.

Currently have a few books on the go.
Legacy, a warhammer 40K book by Matthew Farrer. Published by the black library, a good source for new scifi / fantasy.
Waylander by David Gemmel, re reading for about the 10th time. My fav fantasy author.
And a variety of Asimov short stories and foundation books.
Next thing to read, probably re-read Stalingrad next
I tend to have a few books dotted around that I read, normally read for an hour or two every day.
Reading: The Bourne Supremacy
Will Be Reading: Whatever i pick up from the charidee shop that catches my eye
I get mine out of the charity shop's bin for free. Ridiculously, I managed to have a Tom Sharpe book on the go for about five months, I just kept finding new ones every couple of weeks. Right now I have a nice copy of the latest Wilt book which I've been meaning to start (my wife gave it to me for Christmas).Originally Posted by mgh0
I used to read books on the train to and from work, I've been meaning to get back into the habit. It's a good time to read, but unfortunately if you're reading something like Birdsong (which I did a couple of years ago) it can be a bit embarassing bawling your eyes out on a packed train.
A few of my favourite books are:
Red Storm Rising as already recommended, Tom Clancy's later books are increasingly gung-ho right wing nonsense, but RSR is amazing once it gets going.
Pretty much any Tom Sharpe book, especially the Wilt series.
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro; it's written in a curiously stilted style and it feels a bit remote, but the ending made me cry so much I could hardly see the page.
Rich :¬)
Tolkien is pants:
Just finished reading The Gormenghast Trilogy - Mervin Peake and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - Philip K. Dick.
Currently Reading The War of the Worlds - I assume you know who wrote that.
I have 4 books lined up next, either Emphyrio by Jack Vance, Stand on Zanzibar - John Brunner, I Am Legend - Richard Matheson or Last and First Men - Olaf Stapledon
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
Currently nearing the end of the entire Bourne trilogy.. just getting into the meat of the Ultimatum... then I HAVE to read Catch 22, as I've had it fro 6 months and it's not seen light of day then I got all sorts lined up, Berlin '44... loads about the war I got for christmas, Darwin's Children by Greg Bear... follow up to Darwin's Radio I presume.. and loads of other ones I'll probably end up buying before too long....

This Da Vinci code then... what's it all about? Good book?
It's overly dull, overly boring, overly long and overly repetitive trite waffle. I Am Legend is 10 times the book any Tolkien 'masterpiece' is in one thirtieth the size.

catch 22 is another one of these suposedly 'great books' but i couldnt get past the 2nd chapter, a great book should force you to keep reading untill you finish... catch 22 wasnt one of those for meOriginally Posted by Tumble
