Re: I'm Reading - Will Be Reading.

For all of you who have read, or are busy reading through 1984 you need to check out a book called We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. This is the book that heavily influences Orwell into writing 1984. It's just as good if not a little better in my opinion.

    I am currently reading:

    Red Men and Hyperion

    What I plan to read:

Finnegans Wake by James Joyce (not looking forward to this one as it's supposed to be a proper head case to understand and get the meaning of it)

    Ulysses also by Joyce

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

And a pile as big as me, so many books and not enough time to read them all

I've read it before but many moons ago so going to go back to it.

I would recommend that book I mentioned called We, without it, 1984 wouldn't half the idea's it puts across Will have to dig out the recording I have of Orwell talking about Zamyatin's work. We isn't bad for a Russian who escaped during the war years, moved to Wallsend and lived by Swan Hunters and wrote this book, a lot of it shows in the book in the discussion of the machinery in his Sci - Fi

You still have the other 2 lost years and the 3 e-branch books to go.

Although the vampire world series you've almost finished was my favorite of the lot

My wife's favourite sword and sorcery series.

Hang on... or does she like the Elenium? The first series, whichever that is, where all the old dudes die one by one, saving the queen.

That's another I have in my 'to read' pile
In fact there are quite a few in that category

I chose to reread 1984 before I read Huxleys title, is Brave New World as accesible as 1984 ?

............Must admit to my favourite popcorn books (which I have now read 3 times) being the original Dragonlance trilogy - Autum/Winter/Spring.

Sheer, Beautiful Escapism and nostalgia - esp as the first time I read them was in 1988 at the same time I discovered D&D - good times

Re: I'm Reading - Will Be Reading.

I think Brave New World is a little deeper than 1984, though on the first read I think it gives a more crass impression. Compare it with Huxleys' 'Island' and I think you can appreciate it more.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
