No I feel exactly the same way, even if ALL my mates started doing it, wouldn't mean I would at all..Originally Posted by XA04
I don't really get peer pressure, as if all my mates started pressurising me into doing it, I still wouldn't and if they took this further, after a simple NO, then you would know they aren't the true friend you once thought they were.

Having taken drugs is not in and of itself illegal. Downloading and advertising illegal software is.Originally Posted by skuzgib

Cannabis users are apathetic?

Cannabis substantially increases the risk of sczhiphrenia developing. See the BMJ.
To be honest - I've seen this developing in heavy users.
Fair enough. So long as you're consistent.Originally Posted by XA04
I know all about that, I work with schizophrenia on a daily basis its my job to know about it, Alchohol causes its fair share of mental and physical ailments aswell these are however taken as standard because alchohol has been a legal and taxable drug for hundreds of years.Originally Posted by davidstone28
So, in short, you are happy for people to drink their drug, but not so happy for them to smoke it? Stupid for people to die of lung cancer 20 years down the line, but perfectly sensible to die of liver failure at the same time?Originally Posted by XA04
I think, me old mate, you can't really be drinking at parties, and then be self-righteous enough to start calling others recreational drug use pathetic. Some drugs are legal, some drugs are not, but how many people die of smoking \ drinking related illnesses in a year in the UK? And how many people from Heroin abuse?
Given the figures, I wonder if we have the right drugs legalised.
Nicotine is addictive, alcohol is addictive. Smoke 30 ciggies a day, it is very detrimental to your health, drink 30 cans of lager a day, and it is also detrimental to your health.
Glass houses, throwing stones, etc.
"It has been estimated that, in England, 364,000 patients are admitted to NHS hospitals each year due to diseases caused by smoking. This translates into 7,000 hospital admissions per week, or 1,000 day. In 1997/98, cigarette smoking caused an estimated 480,000 patients to consult their GP for heart disease,20,000 for stroke and nearly 600,000 for COPD.
Half of all teenagers who are currently smoking will die from diseases caused by tobacco if they continue to smoke. One quarter will die after 70 years of age and one quarter before, with those dying before 70 losing on average 21 years of life. It is estimated that between 1950 and 2000 six million Britons, 60 million people worldwide, would have died from tobacco-related diseases."
THE FACTS ARE:
-Smoking kills at least 120,000 people in Britain every year, where as there were 291 deaths attributed to Heroin addiction between 1990 and 1995.
Your idea that smoking should be banned seems to ring true, mate. Your comment that smoking is bad but not as bad as drugs, however, does not.
Oh, and nicotine is a drug anyway, of course, one far more dangerous and more adicitve than Heroin, but I know what you mean.
