They can set the minimum spend at whatever they like, and it's up to them to balance the cost that they charge or take a hit on against the effect that it has on orders and their bottom line. It's obviously got to be at least something like £20, otherwise with the CityLink delivery they'd be making a loss (or that an alternative would be offering lower-cost shipping options for low-value order), but too much higher than that and they lose potentially profitable business.
Purely as a PR exercise, however, when the likes of Amazon offer free shipping to anyone with orders over £19, offering one specific group of customers free shipping if they spend over £50, and jump through certain hoops doesn't then sound impressive.
I'm speaking as someone who is interested in some of Scan's Today Only offers and some of their other prices on occasion, but who generally buys from ebuyer in order to get the best price. I don't like the delivery conditions, but I'm generally spending £30-40, and at that price it currently looks like I'll remain mostly buying from ebuyer.
I would just like to check if this offer applies to the scan custom build systems as well ?
I have recently priced up a custom 3xs system and noticed that the delivery cost was only listed at £10+vat - that seems very cheap for delivering a complete pc - is this the correct price without the offer ?
Oh, I see from another thread that the £50 thing appeared and then went with just me and 1 other person commenting on it, and then Scan confirming that no such limit is in place, just requesting we don't take the mick...
Personally, I think having some minimum order is probably a good idea for the longevity of the offer... for example, if Scan matched Amazon's free shipping rate and said £19 minimum as a starting point, then I don't think too many people would have grounds for being upset - anyone wanting to order much less than that certainly would be taking the mick... it just has to be high enough to cover Scan but low enough to be useful to enough members.

Cheers for all your help - this is a kick-ass offer!
I'll check for you in the morning Splash.
yeah need limit as there will be people who take the mick and ruin for everyone else e.g people who don't care about the offer or hexus just want something cheap.
even £19 would be is low for a £10 free shippings its like giving 50% off but better than nothing and i don't expect scan they are making a 50% profit on todays only goods.
Can't seem to find an answer to this in any of the related threads.
Can anyone clarify whether the free shipping offer is applicable to (edu/govt) account based orders (linked to a personal end-user hexus account) ?
Thanks
When you place an item in your basket and go to pay, will the shipping charge still be there, removed or still shown but be automatically deducted?
When you have registered your hexus membership, as per David's instructions, there will be no carriage charge in the cart.
Hmmm.. Saying my Hexus account was not found.
Any idea?
Yes, please PM me your real name, postcode and email address and i'll check into it for you.
Ok I'm now a Scan Fan Boy!
Had a problem with linking my Scan account to my Hexus for the free delivery.
After PM conversations with Mort I phoned the Sales team who I got through to instantly (other etailers take note) and spoke to Carl who was extremely helpful with the matter.
Product now ordered and should be here soon.
Top marks Scan!
How long do the automated email take on avarage, as I orderd a few hours ago but I havent recived a single email, just a little worried.
Do Scan have any policies towards screens with dead pixels (or funny pixels of any sort)????
Want to buy a £350 screen, but not sure if it's worth the extra £50 to go to the high street to be sure not to have a dead pixel!?!
Thanks,
