Symantec kills off free Sygate firewall

    From ZD Net:
Symantec kills off free Sygate firewall
Sygate's free Personal Firewall product is being killed off by
Symantec, to avoid overlap with its paid-for Norton-branded
    offering

I hate it when companies do this! Sygate was definately one of the best free firewalls.

    Kerio isn't bad:

    Also ZoneAlarm is quite popular

    bah

Sygate was brilliant. If Symantec think everyone is going to jump into bed with norton then they have another thing coming

they will if the price is right

    buy competitor with better product

    shut them down

    repeat

Kerio is being shut down apparently. I don't know what to do now, all my machines use sygate and norton doesn't do anything but crash it. Zonealarm just sits and eats CPU & memory & never has a feeling of control!

Dammit, i use Sygate too. Defo one of the best firewalls for not taking up stupid amount of resources (im looking at you, Norton).

Sygate Personal firewall was awesome. As stated, rock solid and no resource hog. Not to mention, it never caused any problems (unlike my experience with Norton software that has a zillion processes running, and seems to break things on a whim).

I guess we should all download it today then!

looks like it's already gone. Unbelievable :- (

I'll keep using sygate until someone comes up with a good opensource alternative. I don't trust norton anymore - used to swear by them.

Could be tricky. it looks like they have integrated the sites a day early as all links on sygate lead to Symantec webstore

Wow, that was rather crappy of them. Try download.com?

There a free example on the MS platform SDK, or is it in the DDK, anyway, lookup NDIS filters.

    RIP

My favourite firewall by far. I've tried paid and free firewalls. Sygate has to be my favourite.

Downloaded Sygate for my bros computer a couple of weeks ago, at least I've got a pretty new version on CD. Will just use that, won't get updates though.

*/Whacks out a C compiler and starts writing opensource Hexus.Firewall!

    I do.
    XP SP2 Firewall doesn't monitor/block outbound traffic
