I wouldn't go down the path of trying to get him to clear the CMOS. If he buggers his motherboard up then he'll blame you for that. It's unlikely that clearing the CMOS is actually required for a graphics card to function.

If he clears his CMOS he will lose any settings that he or someone else may have configured and his PC may not even boot after that (into Windows that is).

Also, do you know which motherboard he has?

Taz you make such a valid point there

Any money says he would, guide him to the graphics card producers support site...............

Since this appears to be the last post, read ABOVE post - it's useful

MSN. Yeah, I mean.. I want my buyers to be happy but he is getting quite irritating. Plus it will look better for me if he does take it futher with eBay/Paypal.

I've asked him if he knows what motherboard he has, but not directly.
Never thought about the settings though.. hmm, well, I know it resets them, but once again he should get the tech guy to sort it for him. iirc, I'm sure I had to reset the CMOS once whilst changing my graphics card between nVidia and ATi..

But to be tottally honest, I'm trying to help him but for me to help him he has to help me by telling me more detail... even if it's simple things, I asked what was wrong, if he got any errors, blank screen etc.. but avoided the question.

I have had similar problems with a GBA game - worked fine and the buyer was rude and sent it back to me demanding a full refund. I said I would give a partial refund to cover my P&P and ebay costs but she demanded a full refund. So, I actually ended up sending it back to her again with video proof it was working. I never heard from her again

I learned a good lesson - always get proof of a product working before sending to a buyer then your covered. In your case, I would get them to send it back and offer to refund like I did and from that point on - ignore them.

    That's not a bad idea.

If it does lead to him sending it back to me, then I will record a video showing it working.

    Thanks,
one more thing though.. how did you show the video? upload it to the net for them to download or burn to cd or what?

I admire your perseverance, but I think it's obvious he isn't going to give up easily.

Basically you're going to have to draw a line with him. My advice:

    - stop trying to give him tech support, he either doesn't have a clue what to do or hasn't even tried putting the card in and is just trying it on
    - point him towards the manufacturer's website, give him support numbers etc.
    - as I said before, try get some proof from a technician that the card is not working

If he goes to eBay, so be it. If it comes to the point where you have to argue with them directly, I think a well written email to them will sound a bit more convincing than his utter gibberish.

I agree with Norky. You sold the card as is with no tech support expected or implied!

If he keeps on, ask him if he used ESD precautions when installing the card.....

When you get the reply: "wats esd tell me what u no now!"

You can say "Exactly! U fried the card mate!" Then explain what ESD is and how much static charge the human body can hold!

This is why I prefer to sell my tech equipment on places like Hexus. Yeah, you might make a little less money, but at least it's going to a good home and you can be sure that if it doesn't work - it REALLY doesn't work.

this guy sounds like a complete cock, the sort of prick that gives ebayers a bad name - he's obviously bought something he knows nothing about and now for whatever reason he cant get it to work and kicks off. Like the guys above have said you've done your part, if he wants to let him contact ebay then let him do it - from what ive seen from the messages he's sent you he'll have no chance with ebay. I admire your perseverance, id never let anyone speak to me like that. Try guiding him to this site for tech support ..... i'll provide him with some spelling lessons at no extra charge

    Fair enough.
Anyway, aparently the tech guy is coming today. I'll point him in the direction of nVidia's website, and his mobo manufacturer if he tells me what it is.

If I have to write a letter to eBay then I will. Think I should include the messages he sent to me? (just relevent ones? or all?)

    This is the best idea.

Ask him what anti-static precautions he used. If he doesn't understand say "but people should always use anti static precautions when installing stuff in their PC - it's common knowledge!"
