It was a sad sight though, just after he got sent off, to see him trudging off the pitch, back to the changing room, and past the world cup trophy. He didnt even stop to look at it... There can be no excuse for what he did, but the blame that is going to come down on him will be a ready made excuse...

...Zidane loses the WC for france they'll say - but lets face it, there was no guarantee they were going to win it anyway was there. Most of the good players had gone off, and they were exactly laying seige to the Italy goal...

...Shame, I'm a gooner, so would have loved Titi to come back a WC winner, but i think that Italy deserve it, purely based on the Semi-Final with Germany, which is by far the greatest WC football match that I have every witnessed.

One final not. BBC HD - Definitely worth the money!!!

I've just watched it again, and it looks like that is what happened. You see Materazzi grab Zidane around the nipple, and Zidane's shirt creases as if Materazzi is twisting his nipple.

Didn't see France v Brazil or Argentina v Mexico then? Better games imo.

Im also really curious as to what Matterazzi said. It must have been something like "I hope your children die in a fire" or something to warrent a reaction like that. Yes he deserved the red but it didnt make any difference. If he had stayed on he wouldn't have taken the place of Trezuguet anyway, he would only have taken the place of someone who did score. France were the better side i think and deserved to win, can't realy see how people are saying Italy deserved to win tbh.

Oh well roll on Euro 2008!

    (Just kidding)

Cheers for that image, going round the office tomorrow I'm glad Italy won although the Italian near my house is making far too much noise ........

Not that Zidane would have been forgotten anyway, but what a way to be remembered in his last game.

Nah, not really...but don't you think Zidane would have screamed (it does hurt a lot!) or at least try to get the referee to do something about it? He could have filmed or whatever? But why on earth did he have to do that??? I mean if Materrazi indeed twisted his nipple he could have tried to turn that against the Italians

It's really no excuse and since Zidane have played for so long, he should be prepeared to hear nasty things...it shouldn't be the first time, why flip when it was his last game? It's a shame. And sure it was a bit sad seing him walking off and into the changing rooms, but he can blame only himself for doing such an unprofessional thing. I mean sure, Materazzi might have said something really offensive..either it was about the game; I hope not tough because then the whole thing would be even worse - childish even, it might have been something psychological or maybe something about his personal life; like his wife...but still, it's not an excuse for what he did. I'm disappointed, because Zidane is good.

Italy deserved to win and from what I've heard every journalist/reporter who were there is now trying to get a hold on the story; What did Materazzi say?!? Will we ever know?

lol you're biased since you said your mum is Italian Italy didn't deserve to win, France played better and Italy were pushed back for most of the 2nd half and extra time

Nooo I would never do such thing...okay, maybe a little but I actually think that Italy played better than france in general. I mean Canavaro must be the master of the whole WC he did really well + the game; France vs Portugal was soo boring! France barely moved, they played too defensively and no one seemed to want the ball or even create something! They fell back way too much and imo played boring...

But hey, everyone's got their opinions.

I'd love to knwo what Materazzi said, must of been something pretty bad, Zidane was walking off smiling, and then turned around nutted him.

Should be good for a laugh when one of them opens up in the papers.

Apparantly, Zidane has signed a contract with Midway allowing them to use him as a new character in the up and coming Mortal Kombat: Armageddon game. Here's a preview:
