Hehe, I had my fair share of lates in the book... With shift work it is sometimes hard to remember when you are actually supposed to be on or off especially if they change the shifts on you all of a sudden (had that happen). Plus traffic was always a nightmare. (I was fulltime and had to fight my way through M's&D's school run EVERYDAY)

Anyway Don't make a habit of being late but they are expecting these things every now and then. Unfortunately for you there is no way for you to prove otherwise whether you were on time or not. For all they know you could have been at the front door 2mins before they opened it.

Take it with a pinch of salt. It won't be the first or the last time you'll be late I'm sure.

To stop this happening in the future, if you have a mobile put the store exdir telephone number in it so you can call it if you are stuck outside. Also you'll find that the managers have work mobiles (mine did) aswell as personal mobiles. If they are ok with it get their mobile numbers so you can call the duty manager for the day. They'll send someone down to let you in.

Thanks for the advice moose. And everyone else. This will really help me a lot.

Some of the questions seem to bug me a bit but I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Shh, their not hangovers they are Major Migraines incapacitating you to work!!

    Kidding...

TBH unless your manager is completely A|\|*L about processes they tend to be forgotten about and brushed under the carpet... as I said they understand situations arise that can't be avoided. (missed an entire morning off work once as I had to rush into London to get my passport Visa for Moldova) I just made up the hours in the evening shift.

We had a completely closed store once due to NO managers turning up until midday aswell...

    Things happen, life goes on...

Well I just got back, I got there at 12:45, didn't see him till 1:05pm, was out by 1:09pm.

It went pretty well I think, the only thing that worrys me it was so short.

Anyway, he basically said he usually doesn't do interviews as well.

The comission thing.. they are going to stop doing it in about a months time he said. So that staff aren't trying to sell customers the most expensive thing.

The only real question he asked me was why I wanted to work there.. so the interview was very easy. I had a feeling he was probably more nervous than me :\.

Strange thing though, he didn't ask the times I could work.. but I told him anyway. He asked about college and stuff too.

Also.. they are only looking for 10 hours >_<, which is less than they said online. He didn't ask how many I could work either. (Well, I told him the times I could work, eg. 5pm till closing).

Think I could get more hours after been there for a while? (if I get the job that is)

    Cheers

I'm sure they will if you are any good (which won't take much), and once you know your stuff I'm sure you'll be able to take other peoples shifts when they want a night off or whatever.

Forgot to say, there was one question that put me on the spot.. he said something like "What do you know about the company and it's background".

I should of done more revision on that but oh well.

My answer was something along the lines of "Err, well you sell electronics ranging from TV's to Washing machines. And you've been around in Scarborough for a long time because I used to come when I was younger to buy games".

    Was that bad or good?

at the end of the day mate, no disrespect, but your not going for international sales director, so i should think a not too thorough knowledge of currys will be ok. all they are really looking for is someone who has a bit of general knowledge and will be good with the customers. the rest is down to your competition (ie other people going for the same job), which i cant imagine being too high, so i would forget about it until they offer you the job next week

i would phone them on friday, to show you are eager

    Fair enough.

I don't have any previous work experience either, thats another thing. Should be ok though.

He said there is a few more people to interview so it doesn't sound like I'm up againist tons of people.

About the commission thing, they are stopping it this month, but its being replaced by bonuses.

Every month, you can earn upto 10% of your wage in bonuses, depending on if the store has met it's targets. Every 3 months, you can earn upto another 50% of your wage for that quarter, depending on if the store has met its sale targets. For the quarterly bonus, the store receives £35 for each % over the sales target it is each week. That £35 is then shared between the employees, depending on how much they have worked, and how they have performed.

I don't know about the Scarbrough store, but we have been getting around 130% of our weekly targets for the past month or so, so we are looking forward to a major bonus

I think you'll fit in well there. I worked in Currys for just over a year, good crowd working there but eventually the pay and general public made me move on.

I know it's a bit late now for the interview, but what they like is people who can talk to random people. Of course technical expertise is good, but you can't beat a good blagger since everyone has a point where they don't know an answer, and blagging = sales.

It'll suit your student life fine, but whatever you do, don't get stuck there when you could be moving on to better things!

I worked part time at Dixons for a couple of years while i was at uni. Did a bit at currys and pcworld too. Be careful though, there are some proper dicks working there. Most of the best salesmen are very arrogant. One guy there was one of the biggest dicks i have ever met. Everyone loathed him, including the manager. In fact the manager once said he would sack him if he was not one of the best salesmen in the company. There can be a lot of pressure too, especially to sell extended warrenties and people used to steal and fight over sales. It was s***e working there (Leeds). i hope you get a decent bunch at your store mate, it can be quite a good laugh. Best of luck.

And by the way, blagging is exactly what they do in DSG stores. Most people know next to nothing about what they are selling.
