PC World have made their biggest mistake ever...!

I just saw them advertise a laptop as "future-proof"...!

NOTHING in computing these days is future proof. Particularly a "Packard Bell Imedia 1569". When you look at the spec, yes the CPU is good, but only 1GB of RAM, a GeForce 7300se, no DVI, no PCI Express and a mere 200GB of HDD space.

It's even more surprising when you consider that we know quad-core is coming, as is Vista and DX10 graphics.

The last time I thought I was future proof was when I bought a 4GB hard drive to replace a 600MB one. I thought "I'll never fill this" !

its just a sales technique to baffle the technically minded, if you know next to nothing about PC's and your told your getting the best of the best then your gonna take there word for it

- example, a guy at work still thinks his old P4 with 256mb RAM, 80Gb HD and a GeForce3 is still top of the line, as he was told a couple of years ago by a guy in a computer shop that it will be still the dogs in 10 years time.

That's what I was thinking, they could claim it is future proof for the next few days. But they won't tell you that.

To be fair, most end-users will not be aware of the whole quad core, DX10 future. So, for most people, it probably will be futureproof for couple of years.. what kind of price are they pushing?

Heh, i've applied for part-time work at PC World, i'll be happy if i get the job, but i don't think i can handle the shame of peddling awful PC's as top of the line.. eg my mate works there and they've only just started to sell graphics cards with more then 256mb RAM.

It's the same here at Currys. I feel really guilty selling PCs with 6200's and 512mb of ram. And then there's the cables, which are about £17 for a mini-usb one.

Don't get me started on High-Street electronic shops and PC cables, my neighbor paid £25 for a parallel printer cable for cryin' out loud!

my boss did that. i asked him if he "was mental". He appeared with a Belkin fancy-pants parallel cable and a USB extension cable.

What he really neede was a regular USB A-to-B cable. But they were what PCWorld sold him. I threw them in by cable box and gave him a spare. He couldn't be bothered taking them back
