And a lock of Bill Gates's ultimate arse hair.

Right, me and a mate will be going over to America to get some vistas. We are going to leave it until mid to late feb in case the prices drop here, or microsoft decide to implement some kind of blocking of US product in the UK (or whatever).

Ill know more nearer the time.

not looking good guys, after a great install on a seperate HDD to XP, i decided that i would uninstall/format the HDD with xp on it....well vista was having none of it. i gave the drive to spitfire to format on his computer, then the hdd with vista on was spazing out cos it didnt know where to boot from :S i had to format the drive on with vista, then install XP on to it....3 hours later, after basic xp set up, i inserted the vista disk and did an OS upgrade. this installed fine (after another hour) all working normaly, untill i went to the nVidea site to install the new vista drivers (i have a 7950GX2...which is apparently 100% vista friendly) i installed the drivers and did the recomended shutdown, and now everytime the pc loads all i get is a BSOD and an automatic restat with an option to start in various safe modes (in which im speaking to you) or last good setup.....AHHH I have uninstalled the nVidea drivers, and im still getting the BSOD!!!!! im so lost, i have no idea what to do!

EDIT. Well i have re-installed Vista, its all working fine. it would appear that vista comes pre loaded with the latest graphics drivers....and it would also be my gues that the drivers on the nVidea site are not for the comercial release:S ohh well

This kind of price gouging is common with all products sold in the EU.
A while back I was looking at a site in the US that sold Leatherman tools (outside the US too). They always looked a good price even with added tax but I held off buying. With the recent exchange rates being so favourable I decided to take another look only to discover a little footnote on the pages, "Leatherman do not permit sales outside of the USA blah blah blah". So, if I wanted one I had to be prepared to be royally shafted for twice as much and buy one from a rip off UK dealer.
The same goes for Telescopes and optical equipment.
So much for a 'Free Market, free to get robbed maybe.

The us version of vista could probably be activated online in Europe but after we have activated it a few times it will probably ask us to phone microsoft to activate, like windows xp and then I wonder if they will allow us to activate the US version by phone if we aren't in the US.

Is there actually a separate 'uk' version at all? Personally I don't think so..

According to the vista training we have the other day all the discs are exactly the same it's the CD-Key which you use that determines which version of the operating system is installed.

So microsoft probably could tell if we use a us version in europe when we give them our cd key by phone.

has anyone looked into whether its worth a bunch of us clubbing together and getting a business licence (or whatever) for, say, 20 machines? probably wont get a cd each but thats probably not so much of an issue?
