Screw the nicotine, its a mugs game

If you really cant curb your appetite, your doc might prescribe Reductil, which is one of the new generation of appetite suppressants, but with that, you need to keep a close eye on your blood pressure as it can raise it.

Your docs should be your first stop.

Remember, feeling hungry isn't bad for you. It's not the most pleasant feeling in the world, but it's something that you should try to get yourself accustomed to. For anyone that has a shred of willpower, appetite suppressants are not the answer.

As already stated, eat less but more often. Complex carbohydrates up until lunch time, and as few as possible thereafter. Eat broccoli with every meal, bar breakfast, if you can neck it.

Try to do a morning walk as soon as you wake up. Have a tinkle first, of course, but don't eat or drink anything other than some water. Low intensity cardio is best done on an empty stomach.

I have lost over 3 stone - so I know what I do works although it's not for everyone. I simple ate low carb food, staying below 25g carbs per day.

For treats, I would eat sugar free products or diebetic chocolates etc..

The thing with low-carb is you actually end up eating less, but never feel hungry. I know there are lots of studies out there people saying it's good for you, and others saying it's bad for you. But, at the end of the day for me, I lost lots of weight over a period of months, my blood-pressure reduced, my skin condition got much better, my general health improved.

I did have moments when I gave in, had weekends off etc.. and maybe put on a pound or two, but it soon dropped off again when back on low-carbs.

I do try and do excersise but giving my job as a IT consultant, I am mainly sitting down all day.

p.s. curries are generally low in carbs (without the rice, nan etc.) so I tend to eat lots of curry on this diet (home made ofcourse so I know what goes in it) :-)

Not to put a fine point on it, but if you eat curry a lot - you generally lose a lot of weight

If you eat less carbs you tend to eat less since carbs are the type of food you can stuff yourself with without getting horribly full too quickly.

Thanks. So maybe I should eat more meat rather than bread or rice? With a lot of broccoli as a side dish? And play Wii sport after that? I think I can do that

If you feel like chocolate put natto on it, if you feel like a can of coke put natto in it, anything you like put natto on it and then you wont like it any more.

Or every time you want chocolate eat it and watch some schizer movies on the internet. That will put you off.

Wrong...to an extent. You need carbs to move; its a fuel source. Carbs are very important to the normal functioning of the body. Like with fat there are good carbs and there are bad carbs. The bad press that bad carbs have also deamonize the good carbs that your body needs simply due to media ignorance, which sadly filters through to us.

The bad "simple carbs" such as sugars are easy to digest and make us feel hungry so we tend to eat and eat them thus eating more calories. Simple carbs cause blood sugar levels to become unstable so some people do get a rush of energy and get hyper but these levels shoot right back down afterwards and can make us feel crappy. A sustained diet of simple carbs all the time can lead to people becoming diabetic.

The good "complex carbs" such as starch takes longer to digest so we feel fuller for longer and so don't feel the need to eat as much thus we eat less calories. Complex carbs help maintain stable blood sugar levels and provide a more sustained but stable supply of energy throughout the day.

If you eat more but littler amounts of food throughout the day your metabolism will start to speed up and burn more calories. Not eating food will slow your metabolism and when you do eat food you will burn off less of the calories within the food. Since your body will only burn what it needs to live. If you act like a slouch your body will slouch and slow down; needing less energy to live.

Exercising or weight lifting should also speed up your metabolism since your body needs more energy to repair its self and live.

By the way eating meat all the time isn't the answer not if its read meat. There's a lot of protein in it but as a whole red meat all the time is not good for the body. Rice and bread is Ok if its wholemeal. Processed white foods have much of the nutritional value stripped out of them.

If you have a bike and a camera go out biking every so often for quite a distance and take some photos if you are somewhere nice, that's what I am planning on doing, once I get a tripod heh. If your not into photography then nevermind, just go out on a bike and explore would be great, if not...walk it's better in the summer when it's lighter as in the winter its all dark and damp and hard to push yourself out to go, otherwise it's just a bit of exercise, longer then the 5 minutes run round to the shop for that bar of chocolate

Didn't say it was a good idea to eat less carbs, just that if you do eat less you tend to end up eating less food in total (it's how these "low carb" diets work, you eat more protein, you feel full more quickly and so eat less). Personally I think it's a ridiculous idea with serious health implications.

As for needing carbs to move, the body breaks fats and proteins down into carbs, so you get them regardless.

If willpower is a problem, get a dog and walk it. They can be VERY persuasive.
