the best way to lose your weight?

I've grown quite a bit recently used to be just over 9stone but now reaching 15stone(no longer notsobig) and wondering what's the best way to lose my weight most effective way. Btw I'd rather stick to exercise and not so keen on cutting down my eating but if I really have to I will. Anyone have any recommendations? And has anyone succussfully reduced their weights recently?

    Eat less, move more.

It's as simple as that. resist the coke and chocolate when you go to the shop, walk the dog etc. It'll drop off quite quick.

    Self control is important.

Find a sport you enjoy. Gym's are boring IMO, all these people signing up for the new year will mostly get bored and drift away from it.

I recently discovered Squash and play twice a week. I lost a stone in 6 weeks and i still eat exactly the same.

Walking is a great excercise and doesnt put too much stress on you.

As mentioned already, eat less, be more active. Use the car less, so instead of driving/getting a a lift everywhere, walk or get a bike.

Cut down on fatty and sugary foods and drink plenty of water, although not too much.

If you have a dog, take it out twice a day for at least 30 mins a time and walk fairly briskly.

If you do all that, you will loose weight.

Eat less, but more often (speeds upand maintains your metabolism) - and eat healthier. . . any excercise you do is only really effective if you eat right (even if it just 5 days out of 7). Little point in stuffing yourself with McD's to think you might work it off later....

Thanks for all your sugestions, I will definitly try these things you guys mentioned. To be honest I don't think I eat or drink that much because I have heartburn problem and doing so will make me really sick during the night.I do occasionary eat chocolates but not regular basis and I don't drink coke at all. So I don't know why I'm putting on so much weight lately but for some strange reason even drinking a glass water will make me fat

I've found weight loss through amputation to be quite effective. Did you know the human head weighs....

Kidding. I have bought a pair of dumbells. Look on the net and find a good routine and do it while watching your favourite soap.

See you are a Londoner - it's too easy to just grab a bit of food there. So don't! Get a bottle of water but don't get a snack and just cut down on public transport and walk.

Alcohol is very fattening in excess aswell.

Buy a Wii, that's good excercise

I'd be repeating the good advice everyone has given but make sure you set yourself realistic little targets, like a couple of llb's a week maybe, and there's no reason why you can't treat yourself to a small chocolate bar when you've reached your weekly target, make sure you have something to look forward too at the end of the week

I agree with many of the previous posters. Effective weight loss requires two simple strategies:

    1. Eat well (not necessarily less) - eat a healthy balanced diet and don't go on a crash diet. Just eat good food - a small meal several times a day.

    2. Exercise as much as possible. This is the bit that many people who want to lose weight miss out. A sprightly 30-minute walk every day is incredibly good for your body. You don't need to join a gym to get exercise.

Going on a diet is not a good idea as thin people can still be extremely unhealthy due to large amounts of visceral fat around the heart and liver.

Unless you have hormone problems (thyroid etc), then you must be eating considerably more calories than you are burning off, its is as simple as that.

Get to the docs and have a blood test and they will rule that out for you, and then you have to cut down on your intake of things, whatever it may be

You could always try getting food poisoning, my bro in law has just got over a nasty bout from a kebab on christmas eve and he has lost a couple of stone! (Joke!!!!)

Seriously, leave the car at home, walk more, eat less. Buy a bike and cycle. But be sensible, too many people hit a new routine far too hard which does no good whatsoever.

Ok, thanks guys for all your suggestions. AppreciatedAh, Wii. Sounds like a good idea. Last time I went to see my home doctor she said I'm perfectly fine and healthy and I simply need more exercise. She said I should go to the park and jump around a bit but I've never seen anyone doing that in this area so kind of hesitating. Instead I sometimes go to the nearby park and take 30 minutes walk but there are too many dogs around so usually comeback before I accomplish my task. I'm afraid of dogs since I was bitten in my youth. I think I started gaining weight since I quit smoking 2 years ago. Since then my appetite increased a lot I guess. Will taking nicotine tablet help reducing my apetite again? I don't think I eat a lot personally but maybe my average isn't average for ordinally people. BTW I only eat regular stuff nothing special or wierd
