Sold NEW Mobo on eBay, Guy Has a Problem With It

I don't know... I was expecting the board to be fine and that he did something wrong in the BIOS, or he needed to flash it with the latest version (who tries 3 sticks in a P55 board anyway? It'll only run single channel...). Even if that was the case I would have still lost postage + fees + having a "second hand" board instead of a new one.

I've fitted two S1156 processors (which were both fine btw) and I was very worried about putting too much pressure on the pins at the edges as I carefully lowered the processor. The processors do weigh quite a bit... but it's clearly retard damage if you manage to break off a pin in the middle there.

Yup, it's a guy... with a very English sounding name too. When he made his complaint to PayPal he managed to string a sentence together properly though.

Ask him nicely if he still has the socket cover thing, he'll [hopefully] say yes so when you tell Ebay/Paypal where he can stick his claim and he then inevitably tries the "well, I sent it back with the cover, he's telling fibs" approach, you can show them the email that says he still has it.

If a manufacturer can tell you where to go if you returned a board without the cover, I don't see why you can't either - perhaps mention the little warning sticker on said covers when you speak to them.

It was mentioned earlier but I don't remember seeing the answer (and haven't time to check right now) ..... are you sure you got back the board you sent?

Being a cynic, I wonder ......

- buy board
- damage it
- buy an identical board on eBay
- swap them
- send damaged one back claiming it arrived like that, knowing eBay will probably side with you.

It's just a thought.

The only way I can see to cause that the of damage is to be cack-handed enough to drop something (like the CPU) on the mobo whilst installing it.

What astonishes me is that he says he got it posting and Windows loaded. I'm astonished he'd get it to post with that damage. I'm not a motherboard engineer and could be wrong, but my immediate reaction is .... I just don't believe it.

It's not against the rules as such, no, but it does raise complications, such as the possibility for defamation, so on a topic such as this where various assertions and/or suggestions, and perhaps even allegations, get made, it's far better if no identifiable individual is involved, or we might end up either editing the thread or deleting it.

You should definitely ask for the socket cover back, if nothing else it a) shows he is not careful even when returning goods b) costs him money in postage
Agree about the picture (without the flash), would be worth a little red box/circule to hilight it too for the paypal people.

Well PayPal are 'deliberating' at the moment. The guy on the phone said they may elect to refund both the buyer and seller, at their own expense. Don't see why the buyer would deserve to get any money back after he lies and scams me, but hey.

Just had a look at the CPU socket cover from my Gigabyte... it says:

Well, PayPal has now refunded the buyer. I am now in the "appeal" stage. I have had to go and get an official appraisal by a trusted third party (i.e. computer shop) at my own expense. Have submitted pics of before sending and after receipt as well as the letter from the computer shop. Just gotta wait now I guess.....
