It doesn't apply to everybody. From Why is my eBay payment being held by PayPal?:
PayPal and eBay are working together to make the marketplace safer for buyers and sellers by helping to ensure successful transactions.
A payment hold for an eBay item occurs when PayPal temporarily holds a payment you receive for an item you sold on eBay. PayPal notifies you of the hold in the Payment Received email, and also marks the status of the transaction as 'On Hold - Ship Now'. The payment will show as 'Pending' in your Pending balance on PayPal.
PayPal will hold payments in transactions where the vast majority of seller fraud occurs. Here are the most common instances in which a payment may be held:
* You have been on eBay less than six months and sell an item above £50
* You have a feedback score of less than 98% and sell an item above £50
* More than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*
* You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less
* You have received less than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings
* You are listing your item in a higher-risk category which include gift certificates, video games, mobile phones, computers, and consumer electronics
PayPal will not hold payments for eBay items if you meet the following criteria:
* You have been an eBay member for more than 6 months, and
* Your total Feedback score is greater than 100, and
* Fewer than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*
Or
* Your average DSR is greater than 4.5, and
* Your have received more than 20 DSRs in the last 12 months
* Your buyer dissatisfaction percentage is less than 5%
Phew. lol.
Probably not noticed due to the FB rating on our account then.
Got quite a bit of kit going up in the next few weeks (to pay ofr teh Lannage!!) and didn't want to ship with payments on hold.
The paypal payment holding is due to a few things i think, if you are a verified paypal user, with a high score on paypal (not just ebay) then the payments won't be held.
usually it happens on big amounts of payment, they wouldn't hold a payment of say £5.
another thing that sucks about ebay is that the seller can't leave negative feedback, assuming the buyer is always right, how crap is that.
i recently had a new user complain that he hadn't received the item he bought, when i checked the special delivery tracking number he had received and signed for it 2 days earlier, i politely emailed back saying this and also the time he signed, a day later (yesterday) he says a cable was missing, how can i prove i have sent everything i listed (i know i sent everything by the way)
hey pps
i use to be top rated seller and what i read here is amazing...is like everything i tried to explain so long time,to ebay and paypal or to talk with somebody can really understand,is here now...
thats why i decide to open my website...instead of pay over 300gbp/month to ebay and paypal fees and for waht????
Thats the best....put that money away for you in your pocket and open your web,go and accept sage payment linked with your banck account( i prefer hsbc for low fees or none fees )and here u go 3%/month fees for everything..but no 9% how much u usually pay with this sites as ebay and paypal....and as seller i have no rights at all....screw them.....be independent.
/\ you smell of canned meat... prove you aren't and I won't ban you.
