Sold NEW Mobo on eBay, Guy Has a Problem With It

This is one of those times where you get a nightmare transaction on eBay. Basically, I sold a brand new motherboard, never used, with stickers still on it etc. I sold it 13 days ago, the buyer has only just contacted me with a problem. I am sure he has done something wrong, possibly even damaged the board, so I can't accept it back from him. Besides, it was new...

hello i purchased this board off you i have setit up and started to yous it and it keeps cutting out???
Asked him to be more specific about the problem:

basacly i opened it put it in the case wired it all up stuck prosseser in and went to turn it on and it just keept beeping so i turned it out recheaked all connections and tryed again and work i loaded windows on to hard drives and it loads and the crashes and the 6 led witch say how much use the bord has is full from minite i turn it on witch only 1-2 max should be on iv asked around and myself and over pc engerners think its faulty iv built 5 ov theses and had no problem till this one cheers
So he says it was beeping (i.e. not POSTing, then he fiddles with the wires and it POSTs okay afterwards? Sounds to me like he might have damaged it). Told him that the LEDs by the DIMM slots are supposed to be illuminated:

i no there ment to be illuminated but not all off the solid as i have set these up be for and had no problems if i was going to send it any were would be back to you read t and c of ebay you sold it so its down to you and iv taken it all out and packed it up due to i cant do anythink on it as soon as windows scrren comes up it locks and wont go any further i tryed to reinstall windows just in case it was that and did the same my setup was 2 sata lightscribe drives,1gb ati 4850 graphics card,2 160wd hard drives in raid,6gb of corsair ram 1600 9-9-9-24, 2.8ghz 1156 prosseser, and thats it i tryed it out of raid and didnt work so i dont no were we go from this???
Told him to update the BIOS:

iv tryed that with out cd/dvd drives i cant update bios if dosent start it gets as far as windows logo and no further sommee times dosnt even start atall and psu is 650w and winows 7 64 bit ultimate iv tried 32 bit and vista and does the same if its not board at fault why does it turn key board and mouse off???? cheers i would like to rewsolve this between us and not paypal but up 2 you to resolve or replace or refund cheers
Told him he doesn't need to get into Windows as you can BIOS flash from DOS and from the BIOS flash utility. Any other suggestions?

Personally i'd first be tempted to tell him you wont help him until he can write in sentences that don't need deciphering.

Then it may be worth telling him to talk to the manufacture as i assume it's got a warranty on it, even if you RMA it on his behalf.

Never mind, the prick has filed a PayPal dispute against me and PayPal have actually taken the funds out of my account.

This is why I hate ebay, paypal just automatically assume the buyer is right. When it comes to PC related stuff then there is nothing you can do.

Yeah I am gonna do my best. He is required to send it back registered with a tracking number. It will have been opened though and possibly damaged by him. If PayPal takes his side I have two possible courses of action I think:

    1) Credit card chargeback against PayPal
    2) Small claims court dispute against the buyer (I have his address)

My god anyone who speaks english that badly should not be building a computer. Most people get a bit slack when typing but that is terrible.

Sounds very young. Never use ebay myself.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Exactly my first thought. Tried to read what the guy had said, then realised I'd rather stab my eyes with cocktail sticks.

Yes, well PayPal has premptively taken the money out of my account, told the guy to send the board back to me and said I should issue him with a full refund when I receive it...

Make sure the serial number matches what you sent when you get it back - Someone has tried this on me before.

Harsh. Never used Ebay, and never will.

Instead of a refund, send him a spelling and grammar text book. It'll be more useful to him in the long run than the money.

Yup, will do. I have photos which show the board was brand new with stickers still over the CPU socket and expansion slots.

Re: Sold NEW Mobo on eBay, Guy Has a Problem With It

Had the same problem myself a while back with a mobo sale on eBay.
You have to remember that 99% of eBayers are idiots thus they pay more than something’s worth.

My guy was blaming the mobo & demanding a refund but a few mails by me later, it ended up he had his ram in dims 3-4 instead of 1-2 thus no boot.

Now the sad fact is with eBay you have no choice but to accept refunds, however you can try to dispute intentional damage to goods by the buyer, hard to prove & harder to win but anything is worth a go.

Re: Sold NEW Mobo on eBay, Guy Has a Problem With It

if this was me, I would have stated that the bpoard is under warranty (if this is true) and to call the manufacture as they can give them support throughout and no doubt RMA it.

I would have also have saved all communicaiton to file and give them to paypal as proof, and then PHONE PP to tell them about it and simply talk to them so that they know you aint kidding.

How ever with me sayign this I have noticed over the last 3 years PP getting rather stupid in their ways, and making the daftestes moves towards the seller buy removing money nd paying the buyer without even sorting out the case first.

ad then it takes a ridiculous 2 months to sort out.

im currently in dispute with paypal over £650 that was all legal and above board, and they are demanding i pay them the money that isnt rightfully theres, so i now have the dispiute with the finaciual obudsmun
