People will still buy the old CPUs as upgrades for old platforms, and likely the chipsets & DDR2 for Core 2 will remain cheaper than an X58 & DDR3, therefore the overall platform cost of a Core 2 will be lower even if CPU is the same price as i7 - so there is a reason to buy it over an i7.
Core 2 prices will probably drop on the high end when i7 actually shows up anyway.
can't wait for Core i7 prices to come down as well, hopefully already before xmas.
I would find it unlikely that the will be any i7 price cuts before the middle of next year, cheaper i7 CPUs will be released in that time frame but the pricing will not change much.
The pricing is odd. The 3GHz 9650 is still $530, while both the 2.83GHz 9550 and 2.66GHz 9450 cost $316. So sign of a 9570...
Probably, but it's still on the price list.
If the pound continues to tank against the dollar (though gawd only knows why the dollar's staying afloat), Intel can cut the price in half, but it'll still be no use to us. So don't get too excited about prices. :-$
