tbh if i be fair, i dont get the point off upgrades. i mean if your going to buy a copy, then why not buy the full one? i see upgrades are cheaper but still, next time you have to do a re install, you really goig to go through the painfull process of installing 2os's?

    Dude....

    Proof read before posting... please!

And the vast majority of students are not technically minded so will find the upgrade more use, especially as they dont need to reinstall all their software/ back up docs etc

So now that I am running Windows 7 RC I would have to reinstall XP before upgrading? It would be nice if it just needed the XP serial number.

This is the link of the page which US residents get. Looks like Win 7 will be a download.

Those two parts lead me to believe that it is only an upgrade, great for those who are not planning to build a new PC.
Ah yes, didn't interpret that.. I wonder if 7 Pro can be upgraded to from Vista HP in this case then? And from XP Home?
Also with all the faff about upgrade versions, could it be a case of stick in your current licence key to order and they send you the full version?

TBH most likely you can do what you could do with vista - install without a key and then do an inplace upgrade with key to get around the problem..

Would an upgrade version work with windows 7 rc in that the serial key would give the full version?

    No.

RTM builds do not accept RC keys (and that would be piracy if it did work you naughty chap you!)

I'm out in the cold here in the States, I'd buy it if I just had a decent discount deal!

So run that past us again when US students can get an upgrade for $30 (which btw = £18 just in case your math[ematics] isn't upto it)

Errr, how is this Microsoft's fault? They ran the Ultimate Steal program last year, it would make sense they would run it again.

Although with the Ultimate Steal program you get the full version not the upgrade version.

Will the upgrade have to have the o/s to be upgraded installed? I would love to upgrade my previously XP equipped mini9 to W7 but it has ubuntu at it at the moment!

W7 on a Netbook seems like an excellent idea. I can't wait to try it. Should be more ready for SSD than XP
