It wouldnt quite get to windows at 1200mhz or 1280mhz with those timings, but I may be able to to it if I relax the timings a bit more..Ill have a mess with it this aft.

I think it could also be something to do with it being xp 32 as well, my 64bit disc hasnt arrived yet.

Yep that's good but overall performance wise you'd be better with 9x400@4:5 wouldn't you??

meant to ask what are those temps like now on 3.6??

Nice to see you going with 4x1 now Clunk

Another question about the P5K tho. When i have installed Windows (XP SP2), my SATA controller was set to Enhanced IDE mode, think that was the default. Installation worked without any problems. I guess it kinda allows the OS to run on the SATA drives without any necessary driver for the controller by emulating a IDE controller instead. Now i have read that AHCI mode could be a tiny bit faster for the drives, and cause less CPU load. When i tried changing from IDE to AHCI mode (note, not the JMicron controller, but the normal SATA in the first BIOS menu), Windows doesnt boot anymore. Kinda like hangs in a restarting loop. Is there a way to switch to AHCI mode without reinstalling Windows? Maybe by feeding it the driver for the AHCI controller manually, and then rebooting?

Dunno yet, its a pain in the arse with this raid controller fitted, it takes about 30 seconds to boot bast that bit because there are no drives fitted yet..I'll take it out later

Just seeing what the chipset will let the RAM do.

Voltage was 1.575 and temps were 68c with fans on low, thats with 100% load.

    3960Mhz CPU + 1100Mhz RAM 5-5-5-12

I wonder if 4Ghz is possible with 4x1GB in?

The boot up time probably wont change with drives, mine doesn't.

It says it is looking for drives or something like that, then after about 30 seconds, it says that it cant find any and carries on.

@gLk*zaP - Yep, sadly though if you change the sata access in bios to raid or ACHI you'll find xp can't boot the IDE install. You need to set the mode before install. I use raid as this still allows you to run single sata drives with ncq etc., these not being available as you say in ide mode.

I'm not sure if the xp install cd/dvd can see it & do a repair install.

reading up on ACHI for our boards i can't see any advantage over raid. Indeed if you opt for ACHI you lose the ability to run raid (unless you have a new srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy new raid card)

    @clunk
    Yep try all the fours 4cores.. 4x1Gb & 4K
    Voltage was 1.575
You've caught up & passed me then, my 24/7 vc on 9x400 is 1.525v have you got damper on ??

  10. Received thanks from:

    Yep, the damper is on.

Voltage is 1.65xx for the 3960mhz though.

    All the fours eh?

    4x1GB, 4Ghz, and 4-4-4-4.. Ill try it

Too bad. This one time i wish i had RTFM before install hehe. Tho it wouldnt surprise me if Asus doesnt even mention this. I will try to boot as RAID now, tho i only have 4 single drives connected. Will compare with HDTach before/after. But i guess the performance increase of NCQ isnt really measurable. Thanks for the help.

Oh and by the way, i am officially on preorder for E6850 now. I should have it on monday. Tuesday the latest.

Yep i can't for the life of me think why asus keep the default set to IDE.

4Ghz isnt happening with 4x1gb in there. cant get over 440FSB, it gets to almost the desktop and BSODs.

    Managed this though.

    Interestingly,

    3960Mhz + 1100Mhz RAM @ 5-5-5-12 (12.828s) is almost identical in 1M superpi to
    3960Mhz + 890Mhz RAM @ 3-3-3-12. (12.875s).

Not sure what to make of that..Ill try a 32M and see what happens.

Edit: 7 seconds slower for the 3-3-3-12 on 32M.

Nope, setting SATA controller to RAID after install doesnt work either, finds all drives, then Windows claims to not be able to access the device or w/e.
Gonna stick with IDE for now. People building new rigs with this board should be warned tho
