Thats an Ultra, not a GTX. The 8800GTX fits just fine.
    This is mine:

Could be I got mixed up and reused the angled cables from my P5W DH Deluxe.

Not had much chance to play with the board as I'm still finishing off the last of my uni work and my RAM is a major limiting factor right now but generally very pleased with it.

I forgot to ask, can you, or have you tried the GTX in the bottom slot? Does it work at 16x?

I haven't tried this but I know for a fact the second slot is connected to the southbridge and is electrically 4x.

The MCH has a 16 PCIe lanes, which can only be configured as a 16x connection and run to the first PEG slot.
ICH9 has a total of 6 PCIe lanes which are bundled as one 4x (second PEG slot) and two 1x which run to the PCIe 1x slots.

This configuration is the same as P965. For 16x + 16x you'll have to wait for X38.

I should have known better than to listen to rumours on XS then I read that on the deluxe model, 8x8 was possible.

    Thanks for that

Surely Asus are going to rectify the problem with the Sata ports? Or is that just wishful thinking? I so want to get one of em but that Sata kurfuffle is amatuer really. Just so I know, a 8800gtx fits ok but not the Ultra?

Seems unlikely they'll change the board.

From my testing yes, 8800GTX is fine. Any very long boards with a cooler that extends the length of the board (8800 Ultra definately, maybe HD2900XT although looking at it that should be ok) will block at least 2, possibly 4 SATA ports.

Pretty noobish oversight that, if you ask me. Glad to hear its ok with a GTX though.

Thats alright then, my dreams have not been shattered then I wudnt go further than an 8800gtx anyways, Ultra is too much for the tiny improvement and the HD2900XT's are gonna take some time to mature

so its good to say that most 8800gtxs will work, except things like the evga acs things that cover the whole length.

thanks very much for the pictures of it working, thats decided it for me now.

now, to decide where to purchase from.

I fail to see what that gains you?

With the P5K Deluxe you get 3 x PCIe (you can still fit a 1x card into the PEG slot...) and 2 x PCI when using a single dual slot graphics card, same as the MSI.
If your GPU is single slot you get 3 x PCI and 3 x PCIe.

The point is the placement of the 16x slot for the graphics card, if u look on the spacing of the Msi Mb there is loads, the Sata's are miles away. I still prefer the Asus, I just dont get why the placement of the main 16x is so poor as graphics cards are gettin bigger not smaller. Why dont they just make 1 model without the other 4x pcie that is sandwhiched so close or maybe just 1 less Pci
