Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

    hi gLk*zaP
It may be your memory as clunk suggests, but

It sounds similar to issues i've been having occasionally, although i have an OC on.

My solution is as clunk says try with 1 stick.
i've been able to boot then getting the oc failed message.
I've found that once i can post, i can add back my 2nd stick.
Subsequent memory testing/orthois produces nil errors.
It will run fine for a while then it will recur occasionally when rebooted.

Our symptoms are also described here Asus P5K-Deluxe: Flashed BIOS - Boots Fine but "NO SCREEN!" Post 10 is similar solution to what i'm having to do.

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

    I'm having a weird problem:

One of my hard drives is 'disconnecting' whilst windows is running (RAID 0) which causes an unknown hard error (or a BSOD) somewhat unsurprisingly. Reboot and everythings ok for an interdeterminate period of time.. Is one of my drives dying? I've got some new ones on order in case (should arrive today) but it's weird nonetheless.. I get no corruption or other errors. I once saw the intel tray icon pop up briefly saying there was a drive issue. I'm still with the 311 BIOS as when i tried the latest beta it wasn't stable (though this may of been the drive problem again).

I also get a problem where sometimes i get no video output on startup (POST etc) which resolves when windows loads. Pretty sure this is the GTX's fault tho. I hate/love that darn card.

TBH this system is an unstable POS compared to my last (Asus/Athlon) system!

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

    Okey dokey...

The no video problem at startup, is generally caused by one dead or dying stick of RAM.

Take one of them out and boot up, memtest with v1.70 test 5 for a minimum of 2 hours. If there are any errors, its likely that you have a bad stick.

The RAM problem, would also explain your other problems, although it would be better to check the RAM first, just to be sure, before we start trying to fix your RAID, in case the RAID is ok

    But, definitely sounds like RAM

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Ok - interesting take on things and i'll roll with that Clunk - does this board have the USB legacy support memtest incompatibility problem btw?

The weird thing with the video is that it resolves once windows loads (the PC is otherwise running/booting up fine).

I'll have a couple of new drives anyway (even if I don't use them in this system they'll be going in another) to test.

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

You can disable the legacy USB thing just to be sure, but it hasnt affected my memtest results so far...it has affected a few other things, so I always say that if you arent specifically using legacy USB, then disable it.

Ok, well, as you say, it could be the graphics card, but its worth checking the RAM first

Do you have another PCI-E card you can try?

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Yeah RAM check first is always sensible. It's doing loops of test#5 now (passed the first one). I've got the memory manually set to 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2V, 800mhz (as per labelled) btw. I'm at stock for everything else (2.4)
I've got a few other PCI-E cards i could give a go and the new drives have turned up too. If a drive was 'disconnecting' whilst windows was running i'd expect things to go pear shaped (and they do). Bear in mind these are 7200.10's so.. depends if you believe the rumours I guess

I'd say it's stable on the desktop - it only piles over in-game. I sometimes see a dialog box from windows which says "hard error" (and not much else) which i've never seen before. I've had a few BSODs which could well be RAM as they don't list a driver and the stop codes look fairly ram-y to me.

    10 passes now.

    -------------

Got bored of running memtest so went to windows:

Here's the exact dialog I see:

    "Windows System Error"

    "Unknown Hard Error"

(there's a OK button and nothing else). Press it and another pops up. The systems running but it's imposible to interact with any open apps etc. It really does suggest the disk has frozen/gorn.

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

I've actually got it in the error state now and I happened to leave a directory opus browser window open - clicking on any volume on the raid array gives an I/O timeout.. i'm gonna see if i can access a CD.. nope, but i guess if i'd had the cd in beforehand.. hmmm might try the new drives and if it's still unstable i'll run memtest all night long (all niiight all niiight).

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Maybe I've misunderstood what you wrote above, but how have you managed a windows error in memtest?

So, you have disabled legacy USB?
If you have a SATA cd/dvd, unplug it from the motherboard for testing.

See if it still does it.

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Sorry yeah i got bored watching memtest so i decided to play with it a bit to see i could reproduce the fault (in WinXP). I've just disabled legacy USB and it'll now sit running memtest (alll tests) for the next six hours or so. I do have a SATA DVD drive - why disconnect it (out of pure interest)?

I know I should of waiting longer for memtest but i managed a couple of hours of gaming rather than being bored Now i'm not using it it can run memtest all night (if necessary). Generally I'm happy with one pass but i'll do several over the next few hours to be 100% sure the memory isn't the issue.

I'll edit my posts for less randomness lol

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

The reason for unplugging the SATA drive is that *some* SATA optical drives can cause a bit of a kerfuffle (thats the technical wordage ), so it is just another thing to rule out when testing something like this.

Have you got the memory remap function thing enabled? its in the northbridge section of the BIOS

I'm just thinking of things that can potentially cause odd problems...

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Much appreciated - it's good to have someone to sound off against when tracking these issues!

OK I'll unplug the DVDR once the memtest is complete (it's 1.7 passes through now no errors). Not sure about the memory remap thing - i haven't touched it from default most likely. I'll go check now

    Yes it's enabled

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Ive had sticks that have gone for a couple of hours and then produced errors...its always best to put a fan over the sticks while memtesting as well (in case you didnt already), especially as yours is 2.2v RAM.

Re: P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

I didn't put a fan on and they're er.. boiling one 30" fan on full now - it's gone 4:21 with no errors, six passes (all tests) so far.

The problem can occur right after boot (from cold) or 2 hours later. Mostly it's sooner rather than later though.

Ok, well I think we can say that the RAM is fine

You say you can recreate the problem? I'm just wondering if it has done it since you disabled the legacy USB?
